Jimmy Giuffre-Concerts in New York-1965.Archival live sessions from sax/clarinet master Jimmy Giuffre.CD 1 is a trio with Richard Davis and Joe Chambers.CD2 is a quartet with Don Friedman,Barre Phillips and Joe Chambers.

This is a legit release using tapes made by engineer George Klabin for radio broadcast in 1965 and forgotten for decades.Notes by Paul Bley.Available for pre-order at Amazon. As a fan of Giuffre's work i'm looking forward to this.An article in JazzTimes re: this release is linked below.

Klaus Lang - Sais.
Played by Trio Nexus (Sebastian Berweck, piano/Erik Drescher, flute/Martin Lorenz, percussion)
World Edition 2014

“SAIS. is a piece about cows. Cows are a topic quite familiar for a composer who lives in an Austrian mauntain village at 1000 metres hight. He finds them right in front if his door. The cows that are grazing on a juicy green under a bright blue sky – so we might imagine – are one side of the trio. Within the 100 page long score we meet them in the shape of a line of overtones. Just as natural as the life of a cow on an alpine meadow is the musical material that builds SAIS. as a scale of overtones above a low G sharp. But there is the other side, too, the cultural if you will, where humans interfere nature. In SAIS. this aspect manifests itself as an additional tempered scale, and, using the the metophor, as the cow as livestock and useful object.”

thanks for posting this
Not sure the story with the cows does much service to it though.
This is a great disc. Similar to his compositions on Kairos (The Book Of Serenity). Apparently all composed around 2006, though there is a much stronger Feldman feel to Sais. A more obvious pulse driving Sais with more tangible resolutions (even though temporary). It's like bringing feldman to the 21st century.
There is an early recording circulating on the net (which I heard first), but the recording on this disc is vastly superior, more dynamic, and the performers are really outstanding.
My favourite in '14 so far.

Pretty intrigued by that one, Crane was a new name to me a few months ago and the few bits I've heard since have piqued my curiosity quite a bit.

Gil, you should also try the cd "Solo piano pieces 1985-1999", played by Michael Finnissy (Metier). Really good!

the crane sounds really emotional. it reminds me just a touch of satie but much more contemporary of course.

i'm also stoked about the upcoming Kai Fagaschinski and Michael Thieke! i'm a huge sucker for the clarinet :P

the Sacred Realism titles are due mid-June, I should have the new International Nothing (CD, not LP) at ErstDist by the end of the week.
