Count Ossie & The Mystic Revelation of Rastafari -- Grounation, superb, hypnotic in the least pretentious connotation of that term, I got the shitty looking and sounding 2CD instead of the expensive 3LP, probably the best thing I've discovered all year, music for playing gin at dawn

Frau Schau, you know the Dadawah-Peace and Love release, right? that is my favorite release from that crew and one of my favorite records in any genre ever by anyone.

coincidentally, the OM reviewer for the Callahan release (my man Mikey IQ Jones, who I like a lot) cited that Dadawah disc in his review, which I read a few hours after hearing the Callahan and didn't understand at all.

short version: everyone needs to own that Dadawah.

I saw there was some Callahan dub record, I honestly know no Smog or anything before Apocalypse which was in my car for the entire summer of 2011. One listen through Dream River sounds like a thirtysomething interlude with Mel Harris at the gynecologist. I got the Dadawah when you raved about it a few years ago but can't share the enthusiasm.

interesting, definitely my fave of the handful of nyabinghi discs from that crew, it reminds me of Dr John-Gris-Gris a little bit and there isn't much higher praise in my book. sorry for the dud, dude...

anyone who digs the Sugimoto/Kamura type of jap pop, ought to listen to the songwriter/improv duo (bass/guitar+vocals) named Saibou Bungaku [細胞文学].
They have 2 discs from a few years ago. A self named and another named Yoru Made Matte [夜までまって]. Both very fragile quiet affairs somewhere between the sugimoto duo and Nick Drake, but digging very very deep. Both really good.

Much agreed. The group sounds so vibrant and loose. My only regret is that Izenzon's bass is so low in the mix. He's full of ideas but much of the detail is lost I fear. Love that cover too.
