So this is really strong. Same tour as on Soleil D'Artifice, same division into three quarter hourish tracks, but sharp, consolidated group work (more mastered/mixed?). More substantive, weirder and louder than the former, sine and scratch underneath. Going nicely with day two of both Brood II cicadas and the air conditioner. Whole record totally swims with Samartzis' favorite film score The Thing. Second track is borderline Damion Romero.

i'm listening to john cages cartridge music for the first time and it's really good.
i think most of his tape/electroacoustic music is overlooked next to his other work which does deserve to be heard but things like bird cage, the variations with david tudor, and this are really something else to me.

Thought I'd check out the non film soundtrack version of Les Miserables to see if the music was any more memorable. Thought th e film showed Hugh jackman to be a weak singer, then read he was normally a pretty good one.
& no, seems like the melodies for themain part just don't stick with me so I'm wondering why the thing is so popular.

Well this was just a download so I can just get rid of it or ignore it and try it again later. Maybe every so often when I wonder if there is any good in the thing I can check it and say no, just sucks or something.

Mmm... a lovely release and one too easily forgotten perhaps?

On a slightly related note what does eveyone think of the recent Patterson/Rossetto disc on AT?

Classic!

I love this record... a perennial favourite that doesn't sound dated to me in the slightest.

Indeed. And I've also found it translates quite well to the iphone's little internal speaker (not how I was listening to it yesterday, though).

Hmmm...I feel like I need to listen to this again. In the middle of the night, in complete darkness, like I used to do a lot of years ago.

yes, the youtube clips about the Stifter's Dinge installation are very impressive.

Two more recent ECM discs I liked quite a bit were the 2nd Dans les Arbres disc, and Eivind Aarset's Dream Logic.

stuff I played during my trip to work today:

Aunt Sally: s.t. (slowly grows on me; enjoyable after deleting certain tracks from the playlist)
Phew: s.t. (liked it better than I remembered from about 1 year ago)
Aids Wolf: Ma Vie Banale Avantgarde (first A.W. release I sympathise with right after the 1st listen)
Mutating Meltdown: LP (funny & lovely - they need to reunite now!)
Micachu and the Shapes: Never (more consistent than the other two releases I'd say; and not almost every song has a prominent 6th in the melody)
. . . .
