Yeah, I saw him with Han Bennink a few years ago. It ruled.

Re: Now Playing
I've seen him in various configurations over the years at the Victo fest (FIMAV) and he always delivers. Solo, trio, tentet, and also during the recording of this:

oh i was at that show. the tentet too.
brotzmann is impressive to see live, though his shows can be pretty exhausting even for the audience.

Re: Now Playing
+1: He's definitely one of the most relentless performers I've ever seen and heard.

Same for me (in 2006).Piano Mouth wrote:Yeah, I saw him with Han Bennink a few years ago. It ruled.
Re: Now Playing
saw him 2 days ago, with Steve Noble on drums - it was really great !
before that, a few months ago, as Sonore with Gustaffson and Vandermark - very intense reeds trio, maybe harder to sustain than previous duo
and then long ago, with his son Caspar on bass, in Antwerp
and even longer ago, solo on various reeds...
now i think i also saw him with Toshinoro Kondo and Nilssen-Love and Pupillo
my favorite : duo or solo. I'm not really keen on the 10tet, or my soundsystem is not big enough maybe...
if he's coming close to your place, you must go.

On bass, really? I love what he does with the guitar, and I'm disappointed his Massaker group hasn't released anything in ages... such great heaviness.iniitu wrote: and then long ago, with his son Caspar on bass, in Antwerp

At his age.
One of the rarest musicians who can keep on playing that way, I mean physically and with credibility/legitimacy.

Virus - Oblivion Clock
It's growing on me by the second listen, and it feels very Norwegian, which is good since I just moved home and I missed home.
But Virus always sounds like a side project to me. They could happily steal more from their other projects without compromising the sound.

Re: Now Playing
Been jamming this playlist of the finalists for Soca Monarch. The Nadia Batson tune is my favorite, "if he ask you where you been, what time you gon come in, there is something you need to know girl, you don't have man, girl that is your manager". Super Blue & The Love Band is another top contender. Iwer George and Patrice Roberts both have real good tunes, too, but they sound pretty similar to the stuff they had last year for carnival.

Irene Kurka singing Hildegard von Bingen's Antiphons and John Cage's Sonnekus 2 while MTBiking around the Somontano on a beautiful Saturday morning. Amazing!

in the meantime, listening to this now :

i usually dont like much the Conet Project related stuff, but this delicate frame built around some excerpts by Esther Venrooy is excellent.
Re: Now Playing
Interesting first listen to Jakob Ullmann's Fremde Zeit Addendum. I decided to start with PRAHA. Stopped after ten minutes, to close the doors in the apartment, turn off the heating, phone, laptop, and put the cat outside. Then started again. Some birds sang along quite nicely, the plane that flew over was unwelcome and I can't work out what game my neighbors children must be playing, something involving what might be marbles dropping into and rolling around in something. It's an absolutely beautiful piece of music. Funny how aware I became of every single sound, whether coming from the stereo or not. I think I'll wait a few hours until I can duet one of the other cd's with the foxes and police sirens.
