Sounds like the same approach as Sewer Election's Pan LP, and the Tricoli/Ankersmit (I have the CD), A+++. The harder plastic sheath makes such a difference to boot.

I heard a really horrible rendition of a Wagner overture on the radio the other day. Fritz Reiner. It was as if he were doing an instructive recording for third graders.

Chicago Sym could really play, though.

Continuing my occasional trawl through the Erstwhile back catalogue in order of release (not as assiduous, I suspect, as Jesse but just as well-intentioned, if too frequently distracted by other things..), I've just listened to this for the first time in.. wow, must be a decade? And pleasantly surprised how well it's stood the test of time - not all the Ersts of that period have, for me. It's odd how what once sounded harsh, even unpleasant, now comes across as fresh and lyrical - referring to Yoshida, of course. A splendid rediscovery - feel like jumping forward 20 odd Ersts and listening to 047 again with Kurzmann, but I'll stick to the silly rules I've set myself.
