..what have they been up to? I lost interest but have been revisiting the distilled brilliance of Burned Mind. How have their recent solo works been?

I can't speak to recordings, but the few times I saw them in the last year - as a group and solos - were all top notch. Nate is constantly tweaking and expanding his equipment (as is John, but in a much more low tech, lo-fi way) which has yielded a definite progression while still sounding very Wolf Eyes.

Connelly solo opening for Sickness was one of the best performances I saw from the crew last year. His setup is definitely the most simple, crudest of the three, but it evokes some great murky and tension-filled atmospheres.

they've been a lot less active. I've kept up more with Aaron Dilloway's solo work. Always Wrong, on hospital, struck me as a harsher enterprise than human animal, but i can't even remember finishing the first listen.

On the side-project front, Mike Connelly's CD on Intransitive was good, and John Olsen's been continuing with his usual barrages. i think there were a couple double c90s lately from dead machines and his newer thing Stare Case.

might dump these posts into an older thread if i can find one. would be interesting to review my prior statements.

Saw them a few times live in different places (clubs in cleveland, different combos in my basement). Wolf Eyes live is always great.

I couldnt get into Stare Case the first time I saw them but the second time I was blown away and I like their record. Nate Young's similar solo tapes as Regression involving weird loops of thumping and harmonica with pseudo-bluesman mumbing are really cool. Everything Dilloway does solo is great too, he's amazing live. A local label (Dynamo! Sound) put out a tape of his performance at a fest here recently which is really good.

Always Wrong is one of my favorites though! Surprised people aren't into it.

have seen them maybe four times in salt lake city, last time was several years ago. the first time, opening for sonic youth in 2003 or so; the long-haired, sort of jon spencer-lookin dude walked to center stage w/this pathetically timid, middle fingered-microphone pose, during their initial skree/hiss/attack. twas funny. each time they seemed more honed/nuanced than the last.. their last show here was pretty sparsely attended, it was also my favorite performance of theirs--they had some great, simmery, low key dirges. not a big fan of their recorded output

I really enjoyed Always Wrong, I actually thought it was fantastic. I thought the Failing Lights CD was one of the better albums of the last few years and I bought a couple cassettes by them as well that I really enjoyed. I also picked up a cassette from AA Records called Toxoplasmosis with Nate young & Alvia which I really dug too....... Not sure what else but I'm sure I'm forgetting something.........

nate's been going on with his 'hatred' thing (or perhaps it's renamed... it's hard to keep track of these dudes). definitely a favorite w.e. side project for me.

also - saw w.e. the other week at the silent barn in nyc... standard fare, i guess, definitely killed it (despite the noise bro attitude young gives off in his sunglasses )

That new Aaron Dilloway on Hundebiss is terrific – Lip Syncing to Verme it's called. Compact, concise, punchy, sharp.
