heh, sorry... what i can't understand is how people can get annoyed by his voice so easily. i never had a problem with him or the band itself.
from what i've heard of "in rainbows" yorke also seemed to take a step back from his exaggerated whining of earlier song, even though his singing tends to pathos without a question. but i guess that's the thing you're looking for when you listen to radiohead. the only thing i see that is kind of annoying is how the band take themselve too serious in their statements. that with being successful and having fans that tend to romanticize the band/yorke as profound and deeply emotional...

When I downloaded the thing, I was hoping for a subtle revealing of a new 'kid a'. Now it became clear to me that it was the album that hooked my attention, not the band. Still, I'll be checking new releases if will appear any.

sorry if i wasn't clear in my previous comment.
well, as said before i don't hold any grudge against them. i was merely thinking out loud about what the reason might be, they often recieve kind of harsh reactions.
i think they have changed in their way of presenting themselves with the release of "in rainbows". the impression that they take themeselves too seriously might be more connected to the "ok computer" area.
but even so, one could say that their latest way of releasing records is a way of taking themselve too seriously....

anyway, radiohead are just an example for musicians that easily get on peoples nerves and it's a quite funny phenomenon to me.
of course we all dislike certain bands or even genres fo some reason (love or hate it formula). but some musicians attract negative reactions on a more general level. i think those are musicians, that appear very profilic and that attract lots of (devoting) fans. also artists that seem to have a strong focus/vision of what they want/ or do, usually rubbing people the wrong way, just like radiohead, bjork or even mattin.
the funny thing is that musicans that are dealing with really controversial subject matter don't cause this kind of affective reaction and are more discussed in a therotical way...

Can you give an example of this? I was just wondering who you were thinking of out of curiosity of course. For example what would be an example of a controversial subject matter? Perhaps you had "Cageian silence" in mind?

oh - Cageian silence" - not at all.
i was thinking more of music that deals with misantrophy or violence as subject matter. also musicians that have forced themselves or their audience during live performances in a violent manner.

Lescalleet -- Music For Magnetic Tape

The devolving piano into alarm sequence and then back worked, I don't necessarily like solo recorded Lescalleet but the first half was involving, side 2 is a syrupy drone, very brief all round in every sense of abbreviation.

I can't stop listening to this tape. I listen to it almost every day. I love it!

Between this and the KYE 7", I'm very curious to see where he is going with his solo work.

the plan is for him to have a full ErstSolo CD out by the fall, although I don't know if it'll have anything to do with the releases you mention (I doubt it).

I enjoyed the Kye one a lot. To my taste Jason is interesting but not always successful, and I like when other elements are introduced aside from tape noise/loops/static. This 7" almost had a submerged club/dance/pop feel, at least on the first side, that was welcome to my ears.
