A few years ago I listened to an album on ECM dedicated to Pasolini (by S.Battaglia) which was desperately disappointing.
What is this like?

Kind of a strange album, four women, all a cappella, and a fair amount of dissonant harmonies (if that's not an oxymoron). At times it can have the effect of swooping and darting swallows weaving in and out. Not traditional as some of the other stuff I've been listening to. Its grown on me. Didnt know anything about Giovanna Marini before I heard this, but reading her Wiki page I gather she's kind of an Italian version of Joan Baez, and I dont mean that as an insult. I'd recommend this is it sounds interesting to you.

I like Stefano Battaglia. I havent heard that album you mentioned, but the great Captain Hate sent me a few of his albums on the interesting Italian label Splasch, "Atem" with Michel Godard is one, and "Explore" with Tony Oxley is the other. Both are excellent if you can find them.

I have an album he did in the 90's with Pierre Favre (Omen) on Splasch, and it's quite good too.
The ECM album I mentioned is "Re: Pasolini", which I found a little too lyrical to portray the image of Pasolini, which of course, could be a pretty complex task considering Pasolini's life, and death.

Just picked up the Musique Fragile 3x CD thing from Constellation containing albums from Khora, Nick Kuepfer and Les Momies De Palerme. All really different and really good. There's a bit of that Constellation sound there, but that label has grown on me in recent times with their newer additions to the roster. And this stuff is certainly on a more experimental tip.

Kuepfer's is a bit Partchian with a more tempered-modal feel to it, whereas Khora is a nice balance of abrasive and pretty -- made from a lot of processed acoustic instrumentation. Les Momies is a weird project with shades of golden age 4AD gothiness and weird gooey free playing! Great stuff!

Haunted House is playing here again in a few months, very exciting. they did their first show in 10 years this summer and it kicked ass, really great.

i like Sciff 959 and Richter 960. then again i'm not a big classical music guy so i haven't heard any of the other versions mentioned yet.
