Eric Lunde

saw a couple mentions of Lunde in older threads, but I've been rewinding my way through his work and was listening to some older LPs and still find his early output incredible.

so now I want to push into some deeper commentary: why do you think Lunde's stuff is good? is bad? is something in between, or none of the above? I don't really have interest in this as a "Ooh, he's an uncredited genius" or "he's a hack that doesn't deserve a footnote" string of statements; I'd like to see some depth put to observations.

(and, of course, when I was looking for the Lunde CD that Joe Colley had released so I could cite some tracks, I can't find the damn disc... but the split with hands two when the voice comes in "your unguarded breath" it pretty much sends a shudder down my spine...)

and, I will also admit, I like a lot of the conceptual aspects; recording on cassette, burying the cassette in dirt for an extended period of time, digging it back up, then recording ~that~ cassette while it plays back alongside ~another~ cassette from another environment that is linked to the original cassette's "burial" location... and the "world's fastest tape player."

when last i was checking about, there wasn't much of his music circulating, aside from the povertech comp... i see that this is no longer the case, so i am going to do a bit of a dig. definitely very taken with some of the few pieces that i've heard.

i certainly admire him as a vocalist. i think an awareness of concept is part of that, and it serves him musically.

Inspirationals on Industrial Recollections is really strong, and I know Cathartic Process are working on a boxed set. Are there any other recent releases worth looking up?

I liked Boy Dirt Car..after that I kinda' lost interest..

He's got some new stuff out – LRAD: Compositions For The Long Range Acoustic Device (a title which guarantees it's worth picking up) and Localized Noise Induced Transitions.

They're great. Quite distorted but with a lot of space and a sense of something vaguely threatening going on.
