Spent so much time with Ali, Interstellar Space among them.
Most definitely recommend his duo with Leroy Jenkins, Swift Are The Winds Of Life, and the quintet date on Ali's own label, with the unsung Earl Cross on trumpet.
Amazing musician, essential to the direction Coltrane took his music at the end of his life..

Experimental music should be something that suggests a way of organizing your thinking, your attitude toward the world, which suggests that the world could be different.

That's very sad. He was one of the first free jazz drummers I got to know and who deeply impressed me, influenced me a lot.

Songlines w/Brotz & Fred Hopkins. The first time I heard it I couldn't believe how gorgeously the drums were recorded.

A Master, an Elder, no question. R.I.P.

Thanks for the rec of that one with Leroy Jenkins, Jesse, I'll have to search it out...

Interstellar Space is indeed a landmark recording but there's been so much more marvelous music since then.

The trio with Hal Galper and Reggie Workman on the CD Art-Work BURNS.

I saw him play last year at a local outdoor jazz festival. I didn't learn of his death until yesterday. I'm glad I got to see him play once. Rest easy, Rashied.
