Knowing this pairing exists saddens me. A possible genius with an assured hack. Here's to hoping the hack is barely noticeable in the mix.

Come on, I don't think Ambarchi is exactly a genius.

leaving aside the unnecessarily inflammatory part of this, Keith likes playing with Oren because 1) he supports and deepens his drones and 2) they're good friends. it will bear watching how this partnership continues now that Keith isn't so drone-focused, and I haven't heard the Treatise LP yet. but I do think that their working together in 4g brought out what I think is some of Oren's best work, on the set captured on disc 2 of that project, the one from Victo.

along similar lines, are you aware of the briefly lived guitar quartet from a couple of years ago involving Keith, Nick Didkovsky, Hans Tammen and Erhard Hirt? yikes is all I'll say there.

Joking or not, just to be clear(er), Rowe isn't the hack.

Setting aside the emptiness in the word "genius", I dig both Rowe and Ambarchi greatly (earlier Ambarchi projects, say 2000-2006).
Their collaborations on Erst (Seven Guitars, cloud) are potent.
Amusing backlash against drone artists here in this fin-de-siecle decade of EAI/drone works.

I've heard this a couple of times a month ago or more but it didn't really leave a lasting impression on me....
I was really disappointed on first listen. I have a 7" by him which I really like, but there's something really lacking here, possibly simple composition. I found the rhythmic loops enforced by the turntables rotation to be really frustrating.

just purchased:

and a bunch of tapes.

hahahhah no, not that i know of! people know where he went, but he was deliberately very opaque and vague in the email he sent out and only told a few people where he was going. he's doing "different projects, free from distraction," i'm told. he left behind a ton of books, cd's, junk, and compost buckets at a friend's house, and i think they are just trying to get rid of it all. i paid less than a buck/cd!

Great story (the MAP one).
He went from the improbably prolix contributor to internet fora, to a near disappearing act.
It's attractive, more of us should do it.

i think he dropped off the internet (the portion we frequent) a while ago. he only moved away a couple of months ago, i think. for anyone who knows him personally, it's oddly completely surprising and not surprising at all. guy has a lot of interests.

who's "he"? i don't know anything other than the name is vaguely familiar, and discogs has catalog numbers up to like 6 with maybe 3 assigned. http://www.discogs.com/label/Trust+Lost
seeing aaron tomorrow, i'll see if he knows.
good cd though.. a solo or two from each of them and a handful of shortish duos. modular synth and maybe other electronics (dan) and no-output turntable (aaron).
