I actually found the original issue of this with a rather pastoral countryside type cover. I never gave Britten much of a chance but these Suites are on heavy rotation right now. I thought it was hard to find until I realized Naxos reissued it. Take advantage of the fact.

I used to own a vinyl copy of this one. ( I'm settling for an mp3 )

Threnody is a great piece..

Killing some time, I opted for St. Louis to Vientiane via Wendover, UT. Surprisingly worked out well!

BBC sessions of Roxy Music, 1972/73
I never heard anything from that band except for a few hits from around 1980. And having just finished the set, I'm quite surprised.

Some of the more "introspective" songs strongly remind me of Van Der Graaf Generator (circa 69/70) - not only because of the band texture with the saxophone in lead position, but also Ferry's vocals have what I perceive as a complaining tone, in spots very similar to Hammill's to these ears... all in all sometimes remarkably close to VDGG's drama, but then again always adding a wink of the eye it seems.
There are several beautiful moments spread all over the selection (of 4 or 5 BBC-sessions), the one I like best is the August-1972 one... that's probaly the most "untidy" one.

That's because the only interesting material from Roxy Music is from 1970-1973, when Eno was in the band. Their first two records (from that period) are fantastic. I've not heard these BBC sessions (is it a proper release? bootleg?)

Everything they released after For Your Pleasure is quite awful, in my opinion. Unlistenable, even. There's a LP by a grouping from '76 that includes Eno and Phil Manzanera called 801 Live that's half decent, though.

Not a proper release, but a (quite decent sounding) compilation a fan made from radio broadcasts, now circulating among collectors (dime might have it as well).

Just finished listening to a Led Zeppelin concert recording from 1977.

I'm surprised how much I got into that stuff these days (at least a bunch of particular tracks), after all. That happens maybe every 5 years.

Well, boring and lengthy stuff all around, but I find those live versions especially of "Black Dog" and "Kashmir" quite excellent.
