Hello! A newbie posts
"Uaxuctum (The Legend of the Mayan City that they themselves destroyed for religious reasons)" by Giacinto Scelsi from "The Orchestral Works 2"... 1st and 2nd movements surprisingly musical from what I know of Scelsi!

Re: what are you listening to? a new dawn
As Richard Pinnell once said, "by jove there's a lot of good music out there". Things I've listened to & particularly enjoyed this weekend:
daniel jones & david papapostolou - 'leaving room' (adjacent) excellent stuff, quite gentle & very thoughtful eai
fergus kelly, david lacey, dennis mcnulty & paul vogel - 'trinity college' and 'leaching the pith' (both on room temperature) again really really strong eai. trinity college is a recording of a live performance, whereas 'leaching the pith' is a remixing by fergus kelly of concert material. The latter I find particularly strong & compelling
jez riley french - 'pocklington canal' (engraved glass, 3"cd) simple and very effective hydrophonic field recordings, beautifully presented
& finally 'Donaueschinger Musiktage 2006, Vol 1' (neos) - four works for string quartet +, played by the arditti quartet. Saed Haddad & Wolfgang Rihm's pieces are nothing special. But the other two shorter works are really good. Ole-Henrik Moe (of whom I'd never heard) plays violin with the quartet on 'Lenger', a full-tilt machine-like piece that sounds like nothing else for string quintet that I've ever heard, and - even better - Julio Estrada (one of my favourite composers) adds his voice to the arditti quartet for 'quoitidianus', a brilliant quiet textural piece that sounds like highest-quality eai.
All very worth checking out

Yes a fine record, one I've played a lot recently. David and Dan will be playing a live set for audition in a couple of weeks also. Looking forward to that.simon reynell wrote:daniel jones & david papapostolou - 'leaving room' (adjacent) excellent stuff, quite gentle & very thoughtful eai

Oren Ambarchi - Destinationless Desire
a 33 rpm, actually, at least judging by the durations given on the label. which is funny. they do say "As for the aspect of audience participation, we choose not to specify the RPM on the label, encouraging the listener to experiment with playback options and personal preferences.", but they specify durations. i tried both, anyway, and agree with Dan's review in The Wire.

Oren says he prefers it at 33 too, btw.

It's a small world. I just put this in my cd player.
"Before you play two notes learn how to play one note - and don't play one note unless you've got a reason to play it." - Mark Hollis (1998)

His double album Ciaccona/3 Persephone Perceptions on Rune Grammofon is quite good (but not special). It's solo violin music (performed by Kari Rønnekleiv).simon reynell wrote: Ole-Henrik Moe (of whom I'd never heard)
Moe also contributed to some Deathprod's discs, incl. Imaginary Songs From Tristan Da Cunha (a favourite of mine).

Re: what are you listening to? a new dawn
I currently can't get my hands off this one:

When some while ago I figured Holger Hiller's manic delivery of the line "Nimm die Flossen von meiner Frau" can also be interpreted as "Take my wive's flippers" (instead of the so much more obvious "Get your hands off my wive") I laughed tears.
