There's an obscure but interesting duo cd with Clive Bell on shakuhachi and Richard Scott (sound processing) that was issued last year on a small Chinese label, KwanYin Records. It's got some lovely playing, though obviously I have to add that it's not nearly as good as the Clive Bell/Bechir Saade disc on another timbre.

There's a guy in Portland who plays shakuhachi, sometimes with Max/MSP and/or Serge synth, named Joel Taylor. Haven't heard him in years though.

He used to have a band called Nyquist with Curtis Bahn and Scott Smallwood.
You, of all people, should understand

I have this one on LP.

Despite the cover it's a wonderful album by a true master of Shakuhachi.

I've got this LP too on Lyrichord, with Riley Kelly Lee & Ralph Samuelson.

It's nice too.

anyone know anything more about Sabu Orimo ? - seems like his 2 cdr's are unavailable now & there doesn't seem to be a contact for him anywhere.

I downloaded one after reading about it in this thread. It's really raw, you get all kinds of almost comically exaggerated breath sounds in there ( as in, taking a breath before each blast). It's worth a listen, but I wasn't blown away. I think it would work well in the right group context. Beyond that, I 'know' nothing.

There are 3 of them all with different bass player. The best is the one with Barre.
Phil Gelb is the shakuhachi player. Nice guy, more involved with gourmet vegan cooking than playing out these days.
His group the Natto Quartet is a good one.
When he does play he organizes nice groups.

I think that one gets over looked, it is a really slow and beautiful album.

multi-tracked shakuhachi by richard youngs is nice, maybe over-layered but still very enjoyable bit of his chameleonic persona, and also lotus edition, album of his drum/shakuhachi duets with alexander neilson on VHF.
