Fantastic film, and Nyman's music often works well in them, not least for their structural placement in the film. Not sure I'd enjoy them by themselves, though. A Zed and Two Noughts has very good music also.
I've always seen the films first and then heard the music (same counts for stuff like Draughtman's contract f.e.). When listening to the lps the strong images from Greenaway's movies of course come to mind. But, I think that the music is strong enough to stand on its own. I'm pretty sure about that.

always frustrated by the hit and miss nature of this way-too-prolific-for-their-own-good project. but this is one of the high points.

not listening to it as loud as i'd want to. I've always at least appreciated this, but its the first time it doesn't sound too elusive to my ears

On my second listen through this now, first on the stereo. I have to say I'm quite liking it, though as others have said it is mixed. The compositions feel more mature here, more of a focus on the sounds used as opposed to the mere structure. It is a lot of material but if I can devote enough time to it all maybe I'll try a more formal review of it some day.

Radu Malfatti l’effaçage for four bass drums [2001] (b-boim 015)
Nick Hennies - bass drums
“for Nicholas Hennies”

Continuing on with my day of listening to soft and/or sparse music. Again the second listen here and the first on the stereo. I like this one more then a lot of recent Malfatti I've heard and again I think it is the sounds. I'm sure it is part of his program or agenda or whatever but IMO I think that when you are working in this territory the quality of the sounds is incredibly important. Perhaps he is trying to say something about that, I don't know, all I know is that I find certain sounds placed in space to be really engaging. Other sounds not as much. There is an interesting aspect about that, but only in the abstract: that is to say not so much as music. And not really a point that needs to be hammered home either.

http://www.mandorla.com.mx's new mp3 compilations:

Mandorla Autumn Tunes Net-Collection Vol.2 - I & II

Beautiful tracks by Manrico Montero, María Castro, Hidekazu Wakabayashi, Pauline Oliveros, Terje Paulsen and Pablo Reche, among many others. I am deeply impressed by the quality of this mexican netlabel.

Bruno Mantovani is not to be confused with Annunzio Paolo Mantovani.

I didn't hate it, but then I only heard a quarter of the 10 hour fest.
