I thought I read somewhere that most of the ICP master tapes are irretrievably lost.

Where the hell did they loose the masters? In the canals of Amsterdam?
Not sure about it, but water damage actually might have caused the loss.
Never heard that story. The water damage refers only to ICP 014: here's the bit from Han's Jukebox:
Han Bennink wrote: When the promoter saw that somebody was taping it [the gig with Dolphy] illegally he took the tape and gave it to me. For years it was in my car, with water leaking all over it. That's the real story. Then Misha had that recording of him playing with his parrot, so we put the parrot on one side of the album [ICP 015] and Eric Dolphy on the other. That was a good combination! I don't know why we don't release that as a CD.

For the rest of the catalogue..

Han Bennink wrote: Misha doesn't have any of them. I had boxes full of shit I gave to [recording engineer] Dick Lucas. No, when somebody offers us the money to reissue something we'd rather take the money and put out a new album instead.

Yeah, I'd like to hear 007, 008, 017 and 018 too!

BTW, noone seems to have spotted a mistake I made in that Jukebox. I wrote that the disc with Misha's parrot and the Dolphy boot was ICP 014 but in fact it's ICP 015.

ICP 003 and 024 also have been reissued, but 024 seemingly is dubbed from less-than-mint vinyl.

Are any of their albums in print?
I thought you could get their first four at a discount from Rough Trade?
Yes, you can, although it seems the first one is unavailable again. I've also seen "Extended Play" (Smells Like Records), in several stores in Barcelona.

The original vinyl version from 1984 has 12 tracks; the Animal Rhapsody EP (from 1983) - 4 (inc. 2 from Moving). The 1993 CD reissue - I think RT is selling this one - only 10 tracks (9 from LP and 1 from EP) .
It would be nice to have all 14 tracks on one cd, so "Reissue this!"

Amen to that.

The 4 LP releases from Het Apollohuis all deserve a wider audience:

Panhuysen/Goedhart - Long String Installations (3LP)
Terry Fox - Berlino Rallentando
Maciunas Ensemble - Music for Everyman
Ellen Fullman - Long String Instrument

Double amen. But I seem to recall the good Dr Chadbourne telling me he left a whole batch of original Parachute vinyl copies of this in NY when he moved away from there in the early 80s. Dunno if they ended up at Downtown Music Gallery - anyone seen a copy of this hanging out at Bruce's place lately? - but well worth hunting down. Torture Time, her duo with Chadbourne, is pretty extreme too.

Eugene Chadbourne's tapes - the ones he used to sell at his shows, wrapped up in photo-copied paper....

Oh, he's reissued most of those himself as House Of Chadula CDRs (there are about 700000 of them).. my favourite is the Eddie Chatterbox Monk Covers, recorded in SF in 1977 on a defective 4 track recorder. Even he admits the sound quality is "atrocious", but the music is mind boggling.
