I believe, until more details are forthcoming, that the Sugimoto features the exciting prospect of the first three notes of the major scale: do, re and mi.

They're great. My fave is the K. Frimpong tune "Hwehwe Mu Na Yi Wo Mpena" on the first volume. When the voices come in (eventually) it's devastating.

I've only heard the Sugimoto once, but if this is true, it's only for a short piece at the end, not the vast majority of the disc. I'm hesitant to describe it based on memory, as I'm not sure I'd be especially accurate, but it's definitely not like anything else in his discography.

I saw the Dooremiology piece performed in Belgium earlier this year (as did Duif) and it is indeed only a very brief (about three to five minutes?) piece based around the first three notes of the scales. The only thing I've heard even faintly similar recently is Sugimoto's contribution to the Yasujiro Ozu tribute compilation on and/OAR called Tengu in linguistics which is equallyoblique and simplistic. though not based on the scale as far as I can tell.
I believe Dooremiology only one of three pieces on the disc though, which is on the way to me, but unlikely to get here for many days due to our current postal strike.
