"cavehill hunters attrition is a sprawling triple lp collection from valley of ashes and is sure to be one of the most referenced underground releases of the year. valley of ashes contained members of endless kentucky sound miners including sapat (forthcoming lp on siltbreeze), virgin eye blood brothers, raw thug, kark and the magick markers and over six epic sides of vinyl the group conjure a raw and primitive sound, part damaged folk clunk and strum (think heavy tower recordings, eyes and arms of smoke, ghq etc), part wandering, smoked out drone (ala no neck blues, wooden wand..) part ripped and splattered speaker-shred. it's all done with a vigour and spirit that's hard to resist. a great (if pricey) release, limited to 500 only and heartily recommended!"

yes, that's correct. cover art by jason kahn. very nice release. unfortunately i was off in another part of the compound, too, i believe hanging out with mr shiflet, or falling asleep, or both.

Its a rarities/booteg LP it includes the following;

White Riot
Taken from the soundtrack to the film "The Clash" by Julian Temple, recorded in Dunstable, March, 1977.

(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais
The Original version with alternate lyrics recorded at Marquee Studios, London, March, 1978.

Tommy Gun
The unbroadcast first take recorded for the 'Something Else' BBC TV Show in March, 1978.

Louie Louie
Recorded during the '16 Tons Tour' rehearsals in London, January, 1980, this was performed with Pete Townsend as the encore in Brighton.

King Of The Road
During the aforementioned rehearsals Mick takes a cigarette break whilst Joe, Paul and Topper knock out this old classic.

English Civil War
The first of three songs recorded at Tyne Tees TV Studios in April, 1979 for the 'Alright Now' Show.

Hate & War
Mick takes up vocal duties for the second song of the show.

Israelites
Third and final song is a romp through the old reggae classic with Den Hagarty of 'The Darts' on backing vocals.

Dirty Harry
The original version of 'Magnificent Seven' taken from the early days of the Sandinista! sessions, New York, 1980, mixed by Mick.

Overpowered By Funk
The extended New York Remix by Mick Jones. Initial copies of 'Combat Rock' album were due a bonus 12" EP of remixes of which this was part.

The Further Adventures Of Futura 2000
The original demo version recorded at Ear Studios, London during September, 1981 and mixed by Mick Jones at the controls.

Heartbreak Hotel
Taken from the film soundtrack to 'Grutzi Elvis' and recorded at Vanilla Studios during the 'London Calling' demo sessions in spring 1979.

Blonde Rock And Roll
An unfinished song recorded during the Sandinista! album sessions and features Ellen Foley on backing vocals

sunnO))) & Boris - Altar

I held off buying this because black one underwhelmed me completely but upon stumbling across it in in the racks I forked out for it. Wish I hadn't. I really liked sunnO))) at one stage, I still think that 00void and white2 are brilliant but with their attempts to remain relevant and perhaps perpetuate their growing fandom they're becoming increasingly ephemeral and gimmicky. It would be fair to argue that sunnO))) has based their existence on gimmick but their earlier material tapped into a primal energy that was exhilarating and imo, transcended the sum of their parts.

Altar has its moments I suppose, the brassy synths in "Akuma No Kuma" sound nice, a little majestic even but beyond that I find nothing here of real interest. Boris have failed to float my boat
since Amplifier Worship and with Altar they've helped send my boat
to Davy Jones' locker.

I don't think I want to listen to this again. Maybe I'll give it one
more try when I'm in a more charitable state of mind. Until then,
I have more interesting stuff to listen to.

Sinking Infinities - Thousand-Year Reich

This is the best thing I've heard in the second half of the year. Three long tracks of distorted and otherwise effected cellos. There is such a great arc here, and the hectic peak lasts through the whole middle of the second track. I have their new one on the way from New Zealand (for less than US$10 including shipping amazingly).

Their first one, Forever Young, I can't find anywhere. Has anyone heard it?
