Gruppo Di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza - Azioni

Post by user_855 »

Who else has picked up this box already? Pretty bloody staggering - maybe the archival find of the year. I'd be interested in hearing how ppl in the know think it compares to the actual GDINC LPs (have not heard all of them).

Here's the Die Schachtel page for the box:
http://www.die-schachtel.com/html/ds13.htm" onclick= "window.open(this.href);return false;

Custom designed for packaging fetishists, too. Elegant, restrained, completely gorgeous. Just how I like it. This maybe even tops that Luciano Cilio disc...

not just CD, never released anywhere before:

"The good news is that the long awaited and anticipated double CD+DVD box of the Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza is finally available. And it surely will make an impact.

It contains two CD of previously unreleased music, of the wildest sort, of course. But the real treat is in the video DVD: a unique documentary film that surfaced from the archives of the NDR - Norddeutscher Rundfunk, after an incredible (and incredibly expensive) treasure-digging effort that took looooonger than we expected. Finally, here it is: shot in a heartbreaking black and white by Theo Gallher in 1967, it not only captures the rehearsal of the concert that the Group gave at the Gallery of Modern art in Rome in that same year, but also features some interviews with the members of the Group which shed a completely new light on the Group's activity and way of thinking. Want to know Frederic Rzewsky opinion on improvisation? Or Roland Kayn talking about composition? And what really interested Ivan Vandor? Last but not least, a number of close up shots clearly show the extreme sound-making techniques employed by the group to produce "the strangest music ever made” (as per John Zorn's words)."

I thought I was done with buying music for awhile too. I love that Insiememusicadiversa disc they did and I love Musica Su Schemi, this looks like a must-buy for me.

ivan vandor is hilarious on the dvd.

die schachtel perhaps my favourite label at the moment - can't rate that cilio disc highly enough, really. yet to get the prima materia, though was recently talking w/ron nagorcka about that gear (he worked w/them for a time.)

The DVD is really great. The question about improvisation are quite the same than today.
To see them play is really interesting, and yes, Ivan Vandor is hilarious.
Really great documentary, everybody should see that.
I'm curious if there is a movie on AMM on that same period.

The first disc is really good... not even listened to the second one.

Listening to disc 1 as we speak,... all over the place improv that will need a few close spins before it fully leaks into the brain. Packaging is stunning, you know the DS standards by now !

Thanks Keith!
While Die Schachtel is currently my favorite label, Mimaroglu Music Sales is also my favorite online music store.

Thanks...geez this is really tempting. I think I'll start saving my pennies.

By the way Keith this is the first time I've visited your shop and I like it a lot, the layout is great. Consider it bookmarked!

I just bought a copy of the Nuova Consonanza box thanks to the Whitman's description from the Mimaroglu site, and damn, it’s really fantastic! I've never seen anything like this, and the music is groundbreaking

bought this a few weeks ago... this is definitely the group at their ugliest & most raucous. honk honk blast squalk. extended techniques from free jazz put in a pointillist soundscape context; the sounds themselves aren't alien (anymore) but the structures are there.

not sure how many repeat listens this is going to get. there are rewards when you wait.

the DVD is top notch, it helps to see how they make the music & they're an inspiringly very serious bunch, all impeccably attired at the peak of mod chic, impassioned spouting on the practice of improv, incredible to see the intense young roland kayn at the electric organ

I've got 'musica de schemi', 'e poi' and the Editions RZ 67-74 CD comp -- 'schemi' is just okay, 'e poi' I need to check out again, my favorite has been the one on RZ, the strangest sounds and pieces and expertly paced with the quiet stuff up front, slowly building to louder 70's pieces

well, mine is sitting here now, but that certainly doesn't make me any more excited to actually listen to it. the DVD should be interesting at least.

a couple of related releases that I like: Ennio Morricone-Gli Occhi Freddi Della Paura (a soundtrack by Gruppo, Morricone was a member), and the Franco Evangelisti double CD on Edition RZ (Evangelisti was the Gruppo leader):

http://www.forcedexposure.com/artists/e ... ranco.html" onclick= "window.open(this.href);return false;

we have that one for $25 as opposed to FE's $33.
