anyone here have a tattoo(s)?
ive wanted one forever, but havent figured out what i wanted til i read about theravada buddhist monks in thailand who have the tradition to imbue protective tattoos onto young men. they protect everything from bullet wounds to car crashes. thats cool as shit. but now i feel i have to wait til i actually go to thailand and trade them cigarettes for a tattoo or else its not authentic.
until then, what would be a cool tattoo to get. its pretty impossible for me to think up my own tattoo

where do you wanna have it?
difficult to find any clear looking ones online. but ive seen em, and theyre badass.
i too was thinking about working out before getting a tattoo. but really i planned on getting in shape for soccer season this summer. but not like buff or anything.
as far as location, probably on my back. although i eventually want one on my chest, inner arm, and leg. but not like an insane amount of tattoos

i've been toying with the idea of a tattoo of a cartoon dinosaur head coming out of a cloud for a really long time, but being 'mature' keeps stopping me.

I've recently thought about getting a tattoo of something in Sanskrit mainly because I think the devanagari script rawks.
So I found a passage in the Bhavagad Gita that I liked:
But here's my problems: Getting a tattoo in a foreign language, especially in a foreign alphabet seems to imply that the wearer knows how to pronounce it. I'm fairly familiar with the devanagari alphabet but I'm not confident enough to be able to rattle it off.
Also, the translations of it that I've seen differ in some key areas. Here's just four of the hundreds:
-Someone visualizes It as a wonder; and similarly indeed, someone else talks of It as a wonder; and someone else hears of It as a wonder. And some one else, indeed, does not realize It even after hearing about It.
-This someone observes as a wonder; similarly another speaks of This as a wonder; another hears This as a wonder; but even after hearing, not even one understands This.
-One sees This (the Self) as a wonder; another speaks of It as a wonder; another hears of It as a wonder; yet having heard, none understands It at all.
-Marvellously, someone percieves this; Marvellously, another declares this; Marvellously, still another hearst this; But even having heard of this, no one knows it.
The key part, for me is the is the 'none understands it' as it as, taken rather out of context, it seems to imply a universal frustration fundamental to communication. Of course as some translations imply a specific listener or group of listeners who misunderstand rather than a universal misunderstanding I'm a little warry of emblazoning such a thing on my body for all time... then again the fact that it's meaning is somewhat ambiguous, I guess, just reinforces what I find so truthful about it in the first place...
Lastly, the text is somewhat large and I'm not exactly sure where to put it to achieve maximum asthetic appeal.

the sephirot is pretty complex at this point, but it originated from jewish mysiticism. at its core, it each node is a plane of consciousness on the route to enlightenment, ie Keter being ultimate enlightenment, oneness with G-d. from what i understand each node also corresponds to the 10 vessels that were broken in the mystical jewish creation myth and the outflowing from these vessels is what caused creation and from this, the brokeness, arises original sin or whatever. the individual nodes have also been given symbolic meaning pertaining to parts of the body, which is why i want it so large on my back. malkut at the bottom supposedly represents basic human consciencness, so is therefore mapped to the groin, and Keter, at the top is mapped to the brain, which is true enlightenment.
the sephirot has been borrowed, distorted and whatever by countless new-agey mystical traditions including the Golden Dawn. mappings to tarot and horoscope stuff.
honestly, it was umberto eco's novel Foucault's Pendulum and philip dick that made me fall in love with jewish mysticism and the sephirot.

friend a mine had chicken pox scars from when she was young. She circled each one (whole body? never actually saw it, just saw arms and legs) with a small blue tat. Beautiful.
I always thought the Bussotti score at the front of 1000 Plateaus ("piano piece for david tudor") would be a terrifying tattoo.
I have a tiny dot on the palm of my left hand, 1.5" below the base of my pinky finger. Plan on getting a corresponding straight line on my right forearm for balance.
