i'm looking to release some music in the next few months after a year or so hiatus. i used to use a couple of sites for ordering cdrs, cases and labels, but i'm not sure what they are or if they are even still around (i don't have their URL's anymore). there are a few things i'm looking for:

reliable blank cdrs with no printing on them
blank digipacks
matte cd labels
empty jewel cases
jewel case alternatives
blank cd inserts

anyone have any secret, super cheap/reliable sites? i googled, but got a bunch of results that were all about the same in terms of price and selection. i'd rather order from a place with a good reputation.

i use http://www.polylinecorp.com/category-new.asp?OPT=020" onclick= "window.open(this.href);return false; for bulk cdrs, jewel cases, & they have some other decent packaging alternatives too.

i use http://www.tapediscdirect.com/" onclick= "window.open(this.href);return false; for tapes & 3" cdrs.

and though i've never used them, lots of people swear by http://www.discmarket.com/search.aspx?group=DIGIPAKS" onclick= "window.open(this.href);return false; as the place to get blank digipaks.


there may be cheaper places out there, but i've found polyline & tapedisc to be reliable, fast, & they have quality stuff. and they're at least cheaper than the other sites i've seen.

i think that's where i got my digipacks before, the site looks familiar. thanks for the links... these sites look as good or better than what i've already found.

Best jewelboxes for a premium: http://www.jewelboxing.com" onclick= "window.open(this.href);return false;. Cheap CD-Rs I just look at whatever's the lowest on pricewatch this week and has a matte top. (Those white "inkjet" tops are really the best but they often gouge for them.)

a related question, not to hijack the thread, but how do you copy cassettes for fargone?

do you have a duplicator or do you just copy them on a normal cassette deck? i'm trying to figure out just how bad dubbing is, and if I could use that as a way to start releasing shit.

well the reason my only cassettes so far have been an edition of 9 and an edition of 1 is that i just dub them on a regular deck. as far as sound it came out fine, just mega-time-consuming. not so bad since i just let it roll in the background while i did other stuff though,

Those digipacks look cool. How can you print on the covers though?

Also does anyone know where you can get 3" cd sleeves with square corners? I've got hundreds now with rounded corners, and I need square corner ones.

They're black but have a thin varnish coat, that protects the data - unlike most plain silvers which are exposed. they burn really well - usually no more than 1 out of 100 will fail, and most often they all burn fine. and they're only $29/spindle. rule. the site has some other good stuff too.

for cassettes i use either http://www.tape.com" onclick= "window.open(this.href);return false; or http://www.tapes.com" onclick= "window.open(this.href);return false; depending which has better deals when i'm looking or http://www.ebay.com" onclick= "window.open(this.href);return false; since tapes aren't 'all that' anymore there are a good number of businesses unloading bulks & accessories there.

i've used black cdrs before, they do seem to work really well... are the true silver cds on this site really silver? i bought some a couple of years ago that were supposedly 'true silver', but still had a green tint to them.

whoops. i meant blank (as in no logo, etc.) not black. my bad.

i'm sure their "true silver" is bullshit. i've never bought those exact ones, but i've yet to see a cdr & think it was cd.

me neither.

i've heard that the black cdrs are supposed to be better for some reason. i like the idea of the odd colored ones for cdr releases because you can't really get a cdr that looks like a 'real' cd.

I've had good luck with the Ridata matte-tops that Radioshack carried. Now they're carying a branded sort.

I bought a CD-R "true silver" album the other day, and it honestly looked pretty good, but definitely not "real".



For printing on CD, I recommend the Primera Signature Z1--nice little thermal printer, I've had good results. About $140.
