Takahiro Kawaguchi was running around Seoul the last few days with a bottle of shochu named "Invitation to Death" (or sth like that, perhaps "Afterlife" instead of death). It was pretty good, though. Sweetish.

So I have bought the single most expensive bottle of beer I've ever picked up: Old Rasputin XI Imperial Stout. Old Rasputin, by the North Coast Brewing (which I visited on my recent bicycle trip) is IMO the very best stout you can get in these United States. They say this about this special version of it:

Old Rasputin XI celebrates the eleventh anniversary of the first bottling of Old Rasputin. This special batch of Old Rasputin has been aged for a year in oak bourbon barrels, and it is truly amazing—even more depth and complexity than we had hoped for.

and its stats are:

Style: Barrel Aged
Color: Black
ABV: 11.6%
Bitterness: 75 IBU's

But I got to say at a price that I pay for what I think of as quite decent wine, I've not been able to bring myself to drink it. Its been too hot were in the PNW for a stout this, well stout, but its cool off now and may even rain this weekend. So this may be the moment...

Mixed feelings about this one - tried it twice during the past couple of weeks, once at Wranglers Bar & Grill, Silver City NM (best wings I've had outside of Rochester NY, fwiw - if you're in southern New Mexico, check it out), once at the Dog Bar and Grill, Cuchara Colorado ( http://www.dogbarcuchara.com )
