dealing w/ depression
Re: dealing w/ depression
You, of all people, should understand
Re: dealing w/ depression
Yeah, don't limit yourself to one way out. As Jesse pointed out earlier in this thread, an integrative approach is important. The problem of depression doesn't have one single cause (and even if it seems to be one cause, it can take on a life of its own in a negative feedback type of way), and the solution should be approached from multiple angles.Moon wrote:Meanwhile, do you think it would be negative for me to assume that the problem might be a 'faulty brain' and not one of those things you can 'think' yourself out of? Last thing I want is to limit myself.
Yes, definitely. My worst stomach problems coincide with the most serious depressions and anxiety.Moon wrote:Quick digression: Does anyone else with depression here get a problems with their stomach? I throw up very easily when I'm in bad cycles and get a lot of pains and weird nervous feelings.
Re: dealing w/ depression
I just stopped taking citalopram 20mg that I've been on for a year and, in case anyone has experience with these:
When can I assume that the electric shocks will stop?
Second week now and they're just getting worse: get out of my chair *bzzt*, reach for a glass *bzzt*, try to go to sleep *bzzzt bzzt*
I have no idea what that's all about, but it sure is annoying me a lot.
As an overall review I can recommend these pills as a last resort for resetting your overworked brain.
Didn't do much harm to me, just acted as a high-shelf and low-shelf eq, with a bandpass on empathy, some reverb on happiness, maybe one of those fancy 12 stage moog phasers to smudge around that feedback self criticism noise. And an expensive long delay on deciding a relationship isn't working all that well. This is a music forum, I'm allowed to make those analogies

my experience.... four to six weeks (you should have weened yourself off a bit more carefully lad...)
may it pass quickly....

if you was taking 20 mg for a year, cut to 15 or 10 for some months, SMOOTHLY going low with the dose (or change the drug prescription for something softer). Doing that you get less electric shocks, but you get them nonetheless. I had them for more than a year.
classically trained

Marvellous!
Thanks for that, I was worried it was just me for a while.
Didn't really feel like cutting down, getting the drastic change is almost refreshing. Refreshing like an electric shock *bzzt*

I have a list for when I'm feeling down and losing myself in the "blackness". Of course the clinical part is what it is...
Whenever I'm that lost, I look at a list I've made, and know - from experience - that working with the list for some weeks has always made positive change. Even though not on an emotional level, I can recite my life the last two weeks if I follow this list, and it will be better than before.
Of course a list like this is one you need to make personally, since some of the stuff in it is individual.
These might seem like taken out of some self improvement new age feng shui book; they're mostly chlichés. But that's for a reason I guess.
Essentials for me:
Keeping in shape / being physical. Running, hitting the gym, tennis, swimming. This kind of stuff.
Clean the house, drop the clutter, calmness/simplicity; and very important: No noise! (I drop music because it is too emotional/noisy) Usually, I'm overwhelmed by what I have to do and shit I need to think about.
Make a list of some contructive "goals", could be anything from writing a review to applying for ajob; and slowly through the week tick off one or two of them.
Avoiding people who drain me.
Walking - getting out.
Seeing someone once or twice pr. week as a minimum. Trying to focus on what's around me, empathy, doing something for others etc.
But the main thing for me is keeping things as simple as I possible can. Minimizing everything around me to the most basic, not drinking, etc.
It seriously helps me, every single time.
