The IHM metal thread pt. 2

Due to the unholy milestone reached in the previous thread, it has come now for a new start. Things I'm currently annoying my neighbors with today: Venus Star - Nigredo Expulsion Abysmal Lord - demo (members of Grave Ritual doing their best bestial-death approximation. It's actually quite good, if n...

Re: the IHM metal thread

Anyone going to the next MDF? I know it's a way out, but the line up ismore than solid. I've been listening to The Chasm's demos lately, along with curious Finnish and Swedish black metal. Sometimes I feel as if I've fallen into an increasingly itchy pit of record obsession, when I scratch one spot,...

Re: the IHM metal thread

Black Cilice is a lot of what I like about underground black metal -- sloppy, passionate, slightly bizarre, cyclical, annoying, and more than a little beautiful. It's easy to keep expecting so little from the genre, so overexposed is the morass of popular modern black metal -- little more than easil...

Re: the IHM metal thread

I really didn't anticipate this bothering people. The facebook page is public, and open to anyone who wants to join. Yes, you do need to be on facebook. Other than that, you don't have to be "friends" with me or anyone else on fb. It's as public as you can get on facebook. It's also not meant to tak...

Re: the IHM metal thread

uh, well, that's not the intention. This place has slowed down, and it just seems like another venue for discussion. I'm sure it won't stop people from posting here.

Re: the IHM metal thread

The only thing that has possibly ruined metal right now is corporate-sponsored touring, obnoxious fickle dilettantes, and music critics.

Re: the IHM metal thread

Blasphemy is a definite must if you haven't heard them before... for better or worse they are one of the most influential bands in the last 25 years for underground metal, especially the black/death goat war shit. I like 'em a lot. Although not as much as early Sarcofago, who seem to be lumped in th...

This is PRE wrote:I never sell records anymore... always ended up regretting it.
My biggest regret was selling my "Dead as Dreams" DLP for what amounted to half my rent at the time. But you know, beers had to be drunk, and more bad decisions made.

Re: the IHM metal thread

I've given Wrathprayer's "the son of moloch..." lp from a couple years back more than a few listens since then, mostly due to the amazing cover art from Denis Forkas. I never got into it all that much. But it's finally hit me. It's great. Totally plumbing the Blasphemy depths but adding a something ...

Re: the IHM metal thread

Newish stuff I've been digging: Thantifaxath's "Sacred White Noise" album on Dark Descent is impressive -- taking cues from some of the French orthodox black metal, with reverbed arpeggiated lines approaching some sort of nearly prismatic minimalist-inspired effect, but it's not Liturgy. The vocalis...

Re: the IHM metal thread

The new Ride For Revenge album, "Enter the gauntlet," is exactly what I needed lately -- dirty, distorted, dirgey. Longs songs that beat you over the head with filthy buzz. I always want to play them for people who think all black metal is depressive burzum-lite. Finland ftw.

Re: the IHM metal thread

Dead in the Manger's 12 inch on 20 Buck spin is great. I'm spinning it now. Intricate, and interweaving lines. I'm not sure it sounds very American, but seems to take some influence from the orthodox French bizness: Aosoth, DsO, etc. But then again, it's got a strange post-rock aspect to it, albeit ...

Re: the IHM metal thread

Was looking forward to that Dead Congregation album, but the I find the guitar work pretty dull. I finally heard this, and I respectfully disagree. I think, if anything, the riffs seem just as memorable as Graves of the Archangels, and feel like a logical progression for their rather straight forwa...

Re: the IHM metal thread

I'll have to check out Revenant. I've seen them name dropped but never heard them before. also, agreed on that grifteskymfning that F&B posted -- I really dig that one. I think that they reused some of the songs for the Hädanfärd project. As hyped as they are in the underground death/black scene (wh...

Re: the IHM metal thread

I haven't heard it yet, but I'm going to pick it up regardless. I'm limiting my expectations.

The new Teitanblood record is pissing all over my other records at this point. Pissing DEATH! and rainbows.

Re: the IHM metal thread

Too bad Wold is stopping, but at the same time, I'm not sure how much more mileage they can get out of their sound at this point. That probably goes for a lot of bands. I wish more bands would quit earlier.
