Re: the demise of ihm?
I'm one of those musicians who'd like to post more, but feel like my comments won't stand up to the scrutiny of the typical ihm level of conversation. For me, I think it's just confidence and clear writing skills, and the ambiguousness of english in written language doesn't help. After all I'm an im...

Re: Generative Music and music utilizing Max MSP, etc
Leaving things up to chance you mean, or something with a little more intent? There is a max/msp patch that will creative a Fontana Mix automatically out of samples you provide it, would that be something along the lines of what you want to make? Sorry for digressing, I've always wondered if somethi...

Re: Generative Music and music utilizing Max MSP, etc
I know Thor Magnusson 's phd is in artificial intelligence in electronic music, you should check out his writings. He's also quite approachable if you maybe want to ask him any questions. Here's some words from him: http://isea2011.sabanciuniv.edu/paper/musical-score-system-and-interpreter http://ww...

Re: the IHM metal thread
Haha, that entire reply made me chuckle. I started reading this interview with Velvet Cacoon over here http://www.fmp666.com/velvetcacoon/vc.html I got about as far as the part where he nonchalantly explains how a bandmember died. Definitely hating myself for listening to this now, but they do use s...

Re: the IHM metal thread
I was going to say a few pages (months?) back about someone mentioning deafheaven, just thought of it now I've got some time to do forums again. This is not about the new black metal discussions or anything; I found it really weird how much I hated those people and still listened to their catchy mus...

Re: ISIS Arts - Call for Audio Artist
Nuh huh, I googled David Fischer and he's 100% legit. He's a hockey player, apparently trying to break into a new career as a sound artist
I actually didn't notice those spam sigs, I just figured it was some desperate hungry sound artists.

Re: iPhone iPad iPod recording hardware and software
I'd consider using an iPad with garageband for some things. But what I'm really interested in is getting a bad-ass android tablet, throw away my phone and start using it as my main portable thing, help out porting csound successfully on it and go around being serious composer everyplace I go. First ...

Re: Recent Acquisitions
Grundig TK120 Now I need to find a 5 pin mic and a even weirder connector for the speaker. I'll probably be able to use it in 5 years or more... Weird connector can just be removed and make a new one with the cables inside? I mean, can they really have that much more than + - g on the inside? Unles...

Sorry guys, I'm just passing along opportunities that get sent to me, actually.
Though keep an eye on the forum from time to time 'cause I do find a lot of good ones some times!

Re: I Hate Demos / Today's Improv/Composition
How about if you post something new you have to first take the time to give some feedback on something else? Nothing's better than obligatory feedback. When I first joined this forum there was a lot more feedback on posts, also from the posters who were doing new works themselves. It's common sense...

60x60 call for works
A call, late notice, sorry, I forgot to share it. 60x60 is calling for works for its tenth performance season! Vox Novus is inviting composers/sound artists to submit recorded works 60 seconds or less in length to be included in its tenth annual 60x60 project. 60 compositions will be selected to be ...

Re: I Hate Demos / Today's Improv/Composition
Shredder trio The shredders deserve some credit, it's not all me, you know. Interesting fact about this musical exercise: It's apparently frowned upon to make angry eyes on a shredder in a serious business environment. The snack machine coin slot, on the other hand, is completely fine as long as it...

Re: the IHM metal thread
I have recently fallen back in love with black metal, loved Bosse-De-Nage after picking from this thread and saw Lurker's thread about The Great Old Ones. I'm a big Lovecraft fan. I was really pleasantly surprised by these guys, I completely agree with the review. Have you guys listened to it yet? A...

Re: Death metal bass, I hate
Chainsaw sound is awesome, though I'm not sure cutting through the mix will make my new friends happy, haha. They're quite oldschool, it's more like playing for the sake of fun than for pushing boundaries. It's satisfying to riff around as fast as you can. Right now I've settled on the clanky percus...

Re: i hate mixers
I use the MultiMix8 from Alesis and I think it's a great tool for recording. Not the best mixer in the world, but all those inputs separately into the computer while still working as an ok analog mixer is great. I'd pick it over a regular multiple inputs sound card any day. But I wish it had multipl...

Death metal bass, I hate
I impulsively joined a death metal band after finishing the soundtrack of a movie. I don't really know anything about bass in death metal and I'm playing on a six-string that's built like a baritone. What can I do creatively without pissing of my bandmates too much? Any general tips are welcome, too...

Re: Resources and tips for vocal techniques
I'd be interested in hearing works using gases. I know they exist, but have never actually heard any.
Especially Sulfur Hexafluroide must be an amazing gas to work with if you can do it safely (or just have many singers to replace the ones passing out, haha)

Re: Where to start?
If you're an honest person, getting a less legal version with the intent of only testing it shouldn't feel too bad, surely? If you turn into an awesome award-winning composer you'll have to have a legal version anyway
