https://soundcloud.com/abrash_recs/steven-flato-salton-sea "A claustrophobic drone hell-tour of everyone's favorite tourist destination, the Salton Sea. Recorded and composed over one week late April 2013 with samples from a January 2013 trip to the Salton Sea. sf" Great! I feel like I've been on a...

Re: Headphone recommendations?

Thanks again, That's nice to know, and I do like comments in regards to what to keep an ear out for. Regarding those two headphones then, if what you say turn out to apply to my ears, the Senn's are good at a certain aspect of mixing I'm not terribly good at, so they could end up being a crutch, but...

Re: Headphone recommendations?

Sony MDR7506 are studio workhorses for good reason. Clear, good output, dependable, widely available, great price. I just keep replacing them because once I got used to how they sound I just want something I am familiar with rather than a bunch of different headphones. I will try them, it is tempti...

Re: Headphone recommendations?

Great post, Joe, thanks! Graphs are fun, but you're right, of course. If you have time to humour me; what's the 'downside' of the dt880 being quicker then? They're not smudgy on drones, are they? Relative to the sennheiser, I mean. Perfect headphone... Would be great. Used headphones in Norway aren'...

Re: Headphone recommendations?

On the impedance matching thing - I'm new to this. The HD650s for example have 300 ohm, my Soundcard purportedly has a 30.5 ohm headphone output. So I have the figures but no sense of whether the one number is an acceptable match for the other! From what I've found out (so many contradicting views ...

Re: Headphone recommendations?

Thanks for the replies, Open or open-ish seems like the way to go, then maybe get a closed one as well. Do you think the pain of wearing a slightly less comfortable headphone, like Beyers, trumps perceived quality or neutrality in any way? I'm pretty much down to Beyerdynamic DT880 versus Sennheiser...

Re: Headphone recommendations?

I'm going to go ahead and dig this up, hoping this forum would understand where I'm coming from with this: My DT770's broke, never was a big fan of them anyway, so I'm looking for something new and better. Balancing different aspects is terribly difficult and it doesn't help that every single piece ...

Re: I Hate Demos / Today's Improv/Composition

Hi Bill, Congrats on finishing a new work, that's always a good feeling. I'm not very knowledgable about labels, but I remember hearing things on the same alley on Hibernate . The owner seems like a friendly guy. Pardon if you're looking for a bigger one, the typical one would be Type I guess? Also,...

Re: Rap Music

Haha, he definitely could. Not that he has to learn a new language to make him stand out.

There are many half second clips of 'did he just say', and the mixing is excellent too.
I'm not very funny :/

Re: Field Recording the world

I dunno, that kind of sounds like a tumblr template, haha. Do think I've seen some blogs like that before. Also, I suck at blogs.

But as a forum thread I like it, despite the slow pace of this particular subforum. Maybe some day there will even be cobblestone recordings.

http://cdn.pigeonsandplanes.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/cover1.jpg Anybody digging the new Young Thug mixtape? I definitely am, like a 17-year-old Future with even less respect for the correct way your supposed to use Autotune. I liked his last one, I Came From Nothing 2, but he's definitely uhh...

I really quite like less serious field recording from great places.

Marvellous!
Thanks for that, I was worried it was just me for a while.

Didn't really feel like cutting down, getting the drastic change is almost refreshing. Refreshing like an electric shock *bzzt*

Re: dealing w/ depression

I just stopped taking citalopram 20mg that I've been on for a year and, in case anyone has experience with these: When can I assume that the electric shocks will stop? Second week now and they're just getting worse: get out of my chair *bzzt*, reach for a glass *bzzt*, try to go to sleep *bzzzt bzzt...

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/89618/camel%20eat.WAV Sorry for the wait. If anyone is interested in cleaner (non-windy) samples of impact noises of soapstone on different types of desert sand/other rocks for use in compositions let me know. I have tons. Meanwhile, any other field recorders feel free to sh...

Re: Technical Question About CDrs

Really? How did I just mix a cd and a dvd?? Anyway, the last part about the 800mb cd-r's is still valid. And car stereos are more sensitive to burning issues. ..Could swear I remember having to choose between buying cd-r and cd+r at some point Edit: They used the +R on cds to indicate multise...

Re: Technical Question About CDrs

I think this would come down to cd+r and cd-r problems. Basically, +r and -r are different standards and your car's stereo is unable to play one of them (most likely -r). If your friends or Irritable Hedgehog are trying to save some money on cdr's, they might have gone with the cd-r as it's cheaper....

Field Recording the world

Thread for field recording

I'm in Aqaba in Jordan, anyone want a recording from something? Will go to Petra and probably dead sea, have only ediron r09 with the standard mics, no wind buffer. Could maybe fashion a contact mic out of parts if someone has something really necessary for it.
