Re: post yr fave music blogs

I drool so much in this thread.
Unobtainables deserves a big hug for getting me a Mats Gustafsson solo album!

Here's my sound blog:
http://bobobilbjorn.tumblr.com

It contains small projects I am working on, sometimes sketches or sound tests, or random field recordings.

I've never seen him use a laptop? He is using that now?

Lecture on Pierre Schaeffer's "Programme de la Recherche Musicale" (PROGREMU). This is the first part in a series and explains mostly typology. Lecture: Dack, John 1-10-08 PDF: PROGREMU I'm trying to find out where the other parts start and begin, and I might try to cut up some of the others. Editin...

Re: how to mic a saxophone (or any windinstrument)?

After finding a good place for the rode,
get a few extra contact mics and put them on the inside of it.

Just as a service to me, that is.
I love hearing the percussive sounds that hide inside your sax.
Maybe a small condenser near your mouth so the breathing is audible too...

zz pot - In the name of all that is good and right in the world please tell me that''s real and not a typo. What mister Warburton said! I found it ages ago while first starting to nose around in noisy things. I will never forget that day. My visiting friends looked genuinely scared. But uhm.. the d...

Re: Contemporary Music Theory

As I read somewhere lurking around here, you're a student of Smalley's? At City? So you're probably familiar with my tutor, John Dack. He's the one giving me my lectures. And I envy your locales, shiny place it is. Was trying to find out which was the ones I wanted earlier at a spare moment, but he ...

Cassette recording I was working on the other day.
Digital recording has spoiled me rotten, that is my explanation for the too loud hiss.

Re: Matchmaker

I'd like to play with Arne Nordheim. It wouldn't work very well and I'd die of shyness, but I'd like to.
Erik Skodvin or Oren Ambarchi sounds like fun and relaxing people, those would probably be better.

Out of the big names, I'd probably choose Keith Rowe, despite the overt imperialism *drum solo*

Re: Contemporary Music Theory

Books about listening I remember from my lectures: Simon Emmerson writes about the Nine Language Types Jean-Jacques Nattiez writes about poiesis and esthesis in analytic situations, didn't quite get into that whole things. And Pierre Schaeffer wrote the PROGREMU. Emmerson is the one I found most int...

Re: recommendations for portable .wav/.mp3 recorders?

Hope there's not a really good reason why this hasn't been mentioned before: Edirol R09 I have not found or tried another recorder I like better so far, and that includes the expensive sony's. The built in mics are excellent. It doesn't say how sensitive they are on the specs, but there's a mention ...

Re: live-looping

For pedals, I would say the Boss RC-series seems like the best choice. I have only heard bad things about the Line6 DL4, apparently it's really tacky and breaks easily. Maybe lots of people use them for circuit bends? Or got them cheap second hand because they original owner got angry? Then there's ...
