Re: You Tube

My new hobby is pairing up my pop remixes of angry rap with bad quality rips of classic board sport segments. I can't really edit videos well at all, but then again it wouldn't be a hobby if I was good at it. http://www.youtube.com/v/eqjjf2dIawI Thinking of doing Marc Frank Montoya next, unless you ...

Re: I Hate Demos / Today's Improv/Composition

https://soundcloud.com/tim-nagel/haruspicina Heavily edited piece out of various recording sessions. Would love some feedback on this! Listening now.. Nice cohesiveness with the tics, lovely bass, some stretched material I'm not a big fan of, but have used myself so I can't really complain. Togethe...

Re: Where to start?

If you add a tiny bit more on the 200$ you can afford a zoom h2n: http://www.4sound.dk/shop/haandholdte-optagere/zoom/h2n-handy-recorder-bundle.html That's the site you linked from earlier, you can probably find it even cheaper. Then you can use that as an interface/soundcard, record with the mics, ...

Re: Where to start?

I think you can use Audacity as a proper daw, but I only use it for single edits of audio files and analysis. Everything you do is linear, so it's great if you know what you want to do. Not so great if you like to compose inside the software and don't know your plugin parameters completely. Sucks to...

Bernat Combi & Olivier Peirat

I like Peirat's little shred at the end.
Combi's a lot more chill without his accordion, but that crazy hair, zoned out face and odd french is pretty charismatic either way

Re: Music that was recommended to me by visitors

I like experts, the real elitist ones. This is serious music, you don't expect a heart surgeon to go up to a hair dresser and make comparisons about their work.

(I really like making statements that I kind of agree with but are a bit too harsh to say without humour)

Re: Owning physical copies

I've not had many permanent collections of physical object music and am just old enough to not have had life long access to digital wealth. To me, physical owning is an extension that helps my mind build on the music, like every time you come up with a new thought on that music it latches on to the ...

Re: I Hate Demos / Today's Improv/Composition

Today's composition: https://archive.org/download/3SetsInSaarbrcken/NotTheParticularDay24bit44khz.mp3 i'm curious if this is composed or live as well? it's interesting how as these kind of sounds have activity surrounding them they lose a lot of their non objective value you might try to naturally ...

Re: I Hate Demos / Today's Improv/Composition

Today's composition: https://archive.org/download/3SetsInSaarbrcken/NotTheParticularDay24bit44khz.mp3 Great! Is it live? I found the computer use noises to be a little distracting on first listen, but by the end they sounded very deliberate, so now I'm not sure about my assumptions. At some point I...

Re: Hyper-specific small format mixer needs

The smallest solution I can think of is a portable interface and a laptop. How about using more than one mixer, like two cheap euroracks with 2 bus' each? Lots of small 4-1ch mixers? ..Under the assumption it's not for the actual live mixing direct to the PA. It's a forum-relevant assumption. The Sa...

Re: Shotgun microphone for field recording

Moon, how do you like that NTG-1? It is good enough for me, but I guess it is quite bland. It doesn't do anything exceptionally well, just average across the board. The mids are a bit weaker than I like, which you can really tell if you're recording a complex sound. If there's bass involved then th...

http://bastimoon.tumblr.com/post/65126853369 https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/89618/Untitled70mix.mp3 I'm working on some music that's to be produced a certain way so I made this mix with some music that was hard to make sound that way, also music I didn't know that well, all 70s random things I...

Re: Field Recording the world

For use in the most dramatic part of any composition, here's a big brownbear eating and playing with a sheep in a pond: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/89618/Rugg001.wav 24/96 wav mono. I really thought the unnecessarily expensive pistol grip would do more on removing handling noise. Does anyone...

I put Clair de Lune in well-tuned tuning on an fm synth I really like. Such a tumblr thing to do.
But it's fun, that kind of minimal effort transformation web 2.0 #yolo stuff

Re: Shotgun microphone for field recording

That's going to be tough in that price range! I don't have much experience, so my lame recommendation is to just get an NTG-1 and a boom pole. If you can't approach further, like if it's a scared animal or something, use wireless personal mics and a lot of planning beforehand. The NTG-1 likes handli...

Re: I Hate Demos / Today's Improv/Composition

I was about to write about how strange it is that I found those birds to sound like voices when they clearly don't on focused listening, but as I was listening again I found the voices I was thinking of around the twenty minute mark. So not halfway at all! Interesting stuff. I give it another listen...

Re: Nicolas Bernier

It's quite pretty and I always enjoy the way raster noton type artists have their instruments designed. In the context of winning the prix ars, I feel conflicted. It's great stuff, and probably prize worthy, but maybe not this prize? It sounds like it's coming from a direction that's already well es...

The Lurkers just posted this, I'm enjoying it a lot:

Bosse-De-Nage in London

The sound quality is harsh, but it's worth a listen. Really weird clipping.
