Re: Unsanctioned EAI

I think it is a different decision for certain musicians once EAI has been such an established thing. Except that it goes both ways. I don't like being defined as playing 'EAI' since it's clearly such a loaded term. But I know it happens. And the music I play, whether full of silence or blocks of n...

COPY FOR YOUR RECORDS - FIVE YEARS ALIVE - 20% OFF SALE

Five years ago this past Thursday, on August 21, 2009, Copy For Your Records launched online and made its first three releases available to order * (though, as would set a precedent for label promotion, it took another month to formally announce this). In celebration of the label's fifth birthday, ...

Re: Owning physical copies

I buy physical copies of releases I like because they are harder to lose than digital files. Like mono tony, most of the listening I do is NOT on my computer and I've never owned an ipod to listen to mp3s while walking around. But furthermore, I have no particular organizational system to the music ...

Re: Hyper-specific small format mixer needs

the Alesis multimix 8 has 2 auxes. one pre and one post fader. love this mixer so much when one broke I replaced it with the same. shame the newer models don't have all the same cool (terrible) fx presets.

Re: best of 2013

Klaus Filip/Dafne Vicente-Sandoval - remoto (Potlatch) some nice moments on this, though seemingly few and far in between. around 15 min. into "clair," klaus (?) is going full bore (loudest part of the album), and there's barely any signal from dafne. i mean, you've got a bassoon.. indulge us, the ...

i was expecting a lot of super harsh noise/high end stuff given the name Actually the name is not 'Earache' but 'Earrach', which is, quite innocently, Irish/Gaelic for 'spring' (the season): http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/earrach d'oh! thanks for that. I had assumed it was an intentional mis-spellin...

Richard Kamerman September tour Germany/Switzerland/France

Playing mainland Europe for the first time very soon. I did a one-off gig in the UK last year but I think it's still safe to call this my first European tour. Sort of an adventure in a few defined segments. PART 1 - The German Sequence A trio of gigs in Berlin - roughly ordered (in terms of the sets...

Re: Technical Question About CDrs

Edit: They used the +R on cds to indicate multisession discs. really? In what country? Weird. Around the US, I only remember those ever being called CD-RWs And yeah. Moon's right. Don't use 800MB CD-Rs for music. (sidebar: They still make those?) I think I've seen 700MB discs too. don't use those e...

Re: Technical Question About CDrs

I think this would come down to cd+r and cd-r problems. Basically, +r and -r are different standards and your car's stereo is unable to play one of them (most likely -r). If your friends or Irritable Hedgehog are trying to save some money on cdr's, they might have gone with the cd-r as it's cheaper...

Re: I want to make power electronics

I can't speak for the board as a whole But your question has to do with a codification of The Gear That Is Appropriate For A PE Setup And this board generally isn't into defining things like that. In its most useful moments it's more about sprawling discussions about various ways people have experim...

Re: can Jason Lescalleet change the world?

Cage could only open people's ears to something because a large enough group of other people's ears were ready for it. Same for whomever you want to mention. The idea that "ears are more open now" strikes me as seductive but false. Could you possibly have, in addition to the ears you have for today...

Re: can Jason Lescalleet change the world?

Yes, people's ears are more open today than they were 50 years ago... I'm sure there's an interesting psychoacoustic explanation for this. This is why parallel fifths were banned back in the day and now you have to practically train musicians to hear them. This explains why listening to Cage Shock ...
