Re: Recently Watched Films 2017
Wow Lutz, you seem to be a real glutton for punishment  Quite agree with Jon on Meaning of Life (I do like "Every Sperm is Sacred" though), but less so on Brian , which we watched recently and I found to have aged rather well. They nail today's ridiculous 31-gender PC stupidity very nicely. ("...

Re: Recently Watched Films 2016
liked Creepy a lot. Akiko Ashizawa is a highly underrated, seller cinematographer. Kurosawa continues to find novel and impressive low budget tactics to achieve atmospherics. makes a good double bill with The Wailing actually, not only in its shared "fuck the police" and "oni" angles, but also in se...

The Lobster is bad and other takes too hot for Facebook: The Lobster is bad Dogtooth was also bad when people say they liked those movies, they are really saying that they liked L but just haven't been given access to the better alternative. In Bruges is unwatchable Colin Ferrell is the absolute wor...

Re: Is the Film Better Than The Book?
yeah i've seen it within the last year, but i've watched it a number of times. i'm with Lutz, it's a favorite. my objections to Blade Runner have little to do with the book and more to do with it's lack of any redeeming qualities (unless you were somehow previously unaware of the aims of white supre...

Re: Is the Film Better Than The Book?
The Duellists, Wise Blood, A Clockwork Orange and Inherent Vice are favorites of mine in this area. all great movies, all preferable to the books imo.
with Blade Runner, The Maltese Falcon and Lolita being among the worst adaptations.

Re: Rank Good Director's Films in Order of Goodness
Five is much closer to Bang On A Can at its schlockiest than anything Wandelweiser. Phantoms Of Nabua has tended to be the closest point of comparison that i'm aware of, although now i think maybe Seances (seances.nfb.ca) might actually be closer. in general, though, i tend to come back around to t...

"The original title of my film was always Fat Girl, but since I am French and not at all bilingual, it was for reasons more mysterious than an anglicism. Of course, the little girl was fat, but the title also expressed an autism, a wall between her and the world that the foreign language reinforced....

Re: Twin Peaks
having now gone through the show "chronologically" (diary- FWWM -full pilot-season 1-season 2) over a short period of time, pretty much all my former criticisms have been invalidated. things like Nadine's superhuman strength, and James' obvious parody status already being present in the first season...
