Re: the IHM metal thread
Digging Krypts and Beyond Creation a lot... thx for the recommendations. Currently listening to Sterbend "Dwelling Lifeless" from 2006, which is very Burzum-ish, and a sci-fi tech-grind group called Wormed. Need to get the new Voivod as well...

Re: Favorite prepared guitar techniques?
some really crucial info in this thread i'm just starting out on prepared guitar adventures. so far exploring very simple preparations like crocodile clips, chopsticks under the strings etc. i really like the crackling sounds you can achieve by holding a metal object close enough to a pick up pole ...

Re: Favorite prepared guitar techniques?
a couple of things I've been doing a lot (which may have been mentioned earlier, I haven't checked): using one of those neck massagers you buy at the drug store to make the table vibrate, which excites the strings in weird ways. Also I got some metal skewers as Doug suggested and I use an Ebow on th...

Re: Favorite prepared guitar techniques?
sounds from the book here: http://nicenoise.bandcamp.com/ seems like it's preparations and extended techniques geared towards supplementing more conventional playing? i'm wondering if we can list some essential prepared guitar recordings in this thread, for research purposes so far i'm familiar wit...

Re: the IHM metal thread
started to listen to a lot of BM again, mainly Walknut (a name that makes me giggle) and Austere from Australia (I think). also ordered a bunch of BTC tapes and finally got around to listening to the Carpathian Forest CD from 2007 or something that I had yet to listen to since I bought it on release...

Re: Behringer Vintage Delay VD400 question
I noticed that oftentimes guitar pedals will only turn on if there is a mono 1/4" plug in the input, a stereo plug won't do it. in any case a mic is likely not the right level so you'd have to run it through a preamp of some sort (a distortion pedal with the gain turned down will work in a pinch) to...

Re: Post .PDFs of OOP books, scores, etc.
any chance of a reupload of the terence dwyer book? i've been scouring the internet, and all physical versions are at least 40 bucks... steep for a 74 page booklet... irritating that it isn't made available as a legal download, since it hasn't been in print for 25 years

Re: Why Most "Musicians" Are Idiots
1. why would anyone waste time reading said Spin list?
2. why would someone take the time to ask a bunch of dudes on a message board who play in lousy VH cover bands their opinion on said list?
3. why would anyone consider the result surprising enough to be worth commenting on?

Yeah, absolutely! Very excited, folks who play 'this type of music' don't come through town very often at all! Jeph Jerman lives out in Cottonwood but he only plays in the PHX area once or twice a year at most... I might not be able to stay for the whole lineup but I'll be there for your set for sur...

Re: Where to start?
If you have linux and aren't using MIDI, Ardour is a great DAW (and free). Reaper is great for Windows (no midi also), as is Zynewave Podium (which has MIDI and is what I ended up buying). Both Reaper and Zynewave are really inexpensive. I still end up using Audacity all the time unless I need to se...

Re: Do you use a radio as an instrument? Q&A inside
I do have a couple little shortwave radios, not sure of the exact make or model but they are little portable 10-band ones that are about the cheapest ones you can get. I'm in Arizona and I think its a lot harder to get good signals here than it is back East - I just end up playing around with the st...
