I thought I would chime in quickly to say that Haneke is a favorite filmmaker of mine, and I can't say that I haven't been moved by any of his films. As much as I loved The White Ribbon, The Seventh Continent remains my favorite. Looking forward to seeing Amour this winter at Film Forum.

Antoine Beuger: the CFYR piece that Dan semi-reviewed and the upcoming ErstLive (a different Beuger piece, by the same duo as the CFYR, Chabala/Owen, plus Dominic Lash) show a decidedly wilder Beuger than I've ever heard before, especially the ErstLive. Richard Pinnell's review of the CFYR that I l...

Admittedly, I haven't listened to many new releases, including Φ. Franck Bedrossian, Manifesto [æon] Tiziana Bertoncini & Thomas Lehn, Horsky Park [another timbre] Blut Aus Nord, 777: Sect(s) / The Desanctification [Debemur Morti] Chaya Czernowin, Shifting Gravity [Wergo] Deathspell Omega, Diabolus ...

Good list there - see you're a Pollini fan like me (his Boulez Second Sonata rocks too). I also like Mitsuko Uchida's late Schubert, and Brendel on most classical stuff. Never been much of a Chopin fan myself, but grew up with Rubinstein's Chopin all over the house. (Though Pollini's reading of the...

I couldn't decide on recordings by Horowitz, Rubinstein, and Schnabel, or Mozart's sonatas. Bach, Complete Goldberg Variation s (Glenn Gould) [Sony] Bach, Goldberg Variations (András Schiff) [ECM] Bach, Das Wohltemperierte Klavier (Till Fellner) [ECM] Beethoven, Diabelli Variations (Maurzio Pollini)...

Deathspell Omega -- Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice Peter Brotzmann - Machine Gun I should have listed these as well! Jon: Bart , do , The Hands of Caravaggio , ErstLive 005 , The Room , till my breath gives out , and Teatro Assente almost made it. Making my list brought back memories of walkin...

I've purposely disregarded any "classical" recordings as my favorites of those would constitute a list of at least 50. what do you mean by this? about half of your list looks like classical music to me. I was thinking of music from the Medieval through the Romantic period (i.e., what is typically c...
