Re: cut closing

Cut, Crouton, who's next ?
Could you imagine a world without labels ?
But both were run by musicians that also tour, so i guess it's also a problem of time (without speaking of family & everyday lifes).

Re: Critics

About VW : i think that Frans listens more than one time to records, at least for some records (but sometimes one listening is enough to form an opinion ...). My 2 cents experiment : I sent him one of the last record released without any text or cover (release wasn't fully ready) and he did a nice r...

Re: Critics

- most importantly, this is (badly) written by (good) people that are knowledgeable or at least who've been doing that for so long that I can now have a pretty good idea of their taste, bias, etc . and can easily compare them to mines. The combination of all three makes it one of the most useful re...

Re: Jean-Francois Laporte

Soundmatters is one of the best records released over the last years. It's a physical and sensual experience that don't need any speech to be appreciated (something like a Rothko painting). And 23five is definitely a great label.

Re: Giuseppe Ielasi's store, venue or cafe?

The last time i saw him (one year ago), he told me that he has stopped everything about distro/shop etc.
I think it was a kind of space in a book shop. But, I'm sure you'll find nice places for records in Milano !

Re: is EAI noise?

Hmm, I think there's a bit more depth of history and development than one could extract from a single label's catalogue. I've found that the library is a good place to start, if one wishes to educate themselves about these 'avant-garde' artists. Also, seeing this pioneering 'avant-garde' art perfor...

Re: Essential philosophical texts on music

If we speak about 'classic' philosophers and about music as art, then the german idealism can help, especially Schopenhauer (who used to play flute one hour a day) and Nietzsche (who wanted to be a composer). Other classic philosophers didn't have interest in music. There's no specific book about mu...

Re: is EAI noise?

I take your point about the E and the A but all of the mature-approaches and interactions between acoustics and electronics had surely been achieved 20-30 years before 1997? I do agree with you. A look at the Alga Marghen catalogue shows it clearly (without speaking of other pionners such as David ...

You win, Richard.
I won't add anything - especially since english isn't my native language and it takes me too much time to answer.

I think i haven't seen YOKO ONO in the previous messages. Her two first records are amazing. And the unfinished music series she's done before with Mr. Lennon is also great.

Re: Is EAI jazz?

Hey, hang on a minute, don't take my answers out of context. The answers Lee refers to are in response to four specific questions asked by Sonoris. If you are going to disagree with them then I'd like to know about the 90% of EAI musicians that play at jazz festivals (Less than 10% play at ANY fest...

Re: Is EAI jazz?

ok, i'm silly (my grandmother used to tell me). But why 90 % of the musicians of the EAI scene are playing mostly in jazz festival (at least in europe) ? Also why some distributors specialized in IAE have the name jazz in their names ? Why many EAI records are classified in the jazz section of shops...

Re: Is EAI jazz?

Sorry, but it's clear that EAI - in the sense that you speak of it here, i mean AMM and followers - is very, but VERY, closed to jazz. The letter I of EAI speakes for itself. Is there another kind of music, besides jazz, where improvisation is so important ? AMM is jazz music, yes, admit it. Keith R...
