Re: epic length pieces
There's a lot of extended length pieces in the minimalism/drone area obviously. Both Radigue works cited above are trilogies with each part composed and/or finalized at a different time and gathered afterwards (though it's possible they were conceived as movements belonging to something bigger from ...

Re: Iranian Film
Another vote for Kiarostami, easily the greatest film director in activity. In the 70's, Kurosawa himself acknowledged being impressed by the man's work. Taste of Cherry (1997) is the first film of his I saw and is still probably my favorite (the very last few minutes are incredibly powerful but no ...

D’amusement stérile en pose expérimentale, la guitare partout vous empêche d’écouter le reste.' (gb) This could be roughly translated by "from sterile fun to experimental affectation, the ubiquitous guitar prevents the listener from paying attention to the rest". Brief words indeed, and not very la...

Re: FLAC/Apple lossless/mp3 converter
Thanks for the swift answer but
no, I'm a PC user. I want to be able to read lossless files on my iPod and iTunes doesn't seem to handle FLACs at all. Or at least I'd like to convert FLACs to 320 bitrate mp3 for this purpose.nhennies wrote:assuming you're a mac user

FLAC/Apple lossless/mp3 converter
Surprisingly, I'm unable to find an answer in the archives so here's my question: what's your favorite software for converting FLAC to Apple lossless as well as FLAC to mp3 (assuming all that is technically possible)? Program should work fine on a PC and be easily downloadable. Thanks.

I like the idea of this thread and, really, I’d be curious to hear their stories from more people here! Here’s approximately my own timeline: Mid-late 80s > Listen to random mainstream music coming from TV/radio, unsound taste for just about anything. Late 80s > Listen to classic rock from the 60s: ...

Re: Criticism & Sound Art / Experimental Music
Not to mention what happened to Glenn Branca, who - having to perform "Hallucination City" at Rome's Auditorium with (theoretically) 100 local instrumentalists - had instead to cancel the date because no one managed to find them in due time, and when the concert was rescheduled the number of player...

Any idea if this thesis will be available as a downloadable pdf once it's been defended?

Re: Carnality in improvisation
I think there's definitely a puritanical streak running through at least some of the different London-based improv strains/crews over the years. this page of Martin Davidson talking about his own habits, for instance: http://www.emanemdisc.com/addenda/habits.html Wow. Double wow!!! A quite disturbi...

Re: Carnality in improvisation
OK I’m neither familiar with The Wire nor with David Keenan’s writings so I might be wrong in calling this piece a pile of crap. There’s no review at all in the first place! Which is odd for a full-page feature that I thought would be dedicated to that... I haven’t heard any of the discussed discs b...

Re: Newbie Electroacoustic/Noise recommendations
on the samples, it seemed that Peter Evans is doing on Nature/Culture what Greg Kelley did on Self-Hate Index, but a lot better. What? I really believe those guys (for whom I have the deepest respect) have a totally different approach/style/sound. The only thing they have in common is being able to...

The BSC's first release since 2003's Good on Grob Records is now available in FLAC, Apple Lossless, MP3, and OGG formats. The cost is one Tweet (more on that, later). Does that mean that the label has gone out of business? I haven't heard anything from Grob since Steamboat Switzerland's Zone 2 a co...
