I don't think it nails very much at all. I like what Žižek had to say about Children of Men on the DVD bonus, but I find this review pretty lite. One cannot but recall here a witty formula of life under a hard Communist regime: Of the three features–personal honesty, sincere support of the regime a...

Haha, sounds like a talented girl (although Jennifer might think otherwise)

Dario Argento, Phenomena , 1985: Sounds like something I might enjoy, although I've seen little by the guy (Suspiria and Profondo Rosso are the ones that come to mind). I think I'll try to get hold of it :) Love the piece of Jennifer Connelly trivia too, sounds like the kind of thing that might hap...

All I know is I love The Tenant madly. He's a great director in my book, just on the strength of that work :] Not that Rosemary's Baby is anything to scoff at either.

Grabbed this off passthepopcorn recently, planning to watch soonish.

Here's my list, which includes at least some ihm-relevant music: http://seul-le-cinema.blogspot.com/2012/01/my-2011-in-culture-part-ii-music.html Took me by surprise to see Tonstartssbandht on there. Interesting to see appreciation for the Arbutus crew on IHM, after having followed that milieu with...

Sans toit ni loi is a good one. The Parallax View I couldn't bring myself to watch, not my style at all.

Couldn't be bothered to put a lot of thought into it, but I did compile this list of 10 2011 favourites, in no particular order: Julia Holter - Tragedy Simon Scott - Bunny David Sylvian - Died in the Wool Jenny Hval - Viscera Jody Redhage - Of Minutiae and Memory Mist - House Tim Hecker - Ravedeath ...

This has proved to be my most loved song this year, Circuit des Yeux' live cover of Despair Came Knocking:

the Annette Peacock reissue was new to me, and I'm totally glad for it. I remember my elation upon finding the vinyl maybe five/six years ago... hopefully the new media gets that recording the listens it deserves... --sep/dis I happened to buy this album recently :) The title track is absolutely fa...

Thinking of buying Diva while the introductory price is still valid; not sure if Zebra might be a better fit though realistically, considering I'm no analogue obsessive. Diva's a helluva CPU hog I've found, when playing it polyphonically I'm limited to draft mode. I'll try to clock up my 3.4 GHz CPU...

Boomkat's list on the other hand I really like. As far as the Boomkat list goes – and just about any year-enders, really – the artist charts are where it's at. The vagaries and messiness of personal taste are far more interesting than canon-making. Looking forward to what folks here have to offer u...

The Wire list struck me as surprisingly irrelevant/uninteresting, to be honest, save for a few exceptions. Boomkat's list on the other hand I really like. I don't necessarily agree with all their choices (aTelecine over Jenny Hval!?), despite Tragedy being my #1 as well, but I can definitely respect...

Great news! Really glad to see all the love for Viscera on year-end charts, she topped themilkfactory's one for instance.

Misfits Another two season wonder, which (in typical British fashion) shit the bed once it got popular enough that it would have been financially unsound not to squeeze as much blood out of the stone as possible (despite a total lack of ideas and a dependable hemorrhaging of cast members). But unti...

I tend to buy FLAC downloads from boomkat, sometimes I buy from bandcamp.com or directly from artists.

http://horrorhappyhour.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/angsta-213x300.jpg Angst [1983] , a horrific account of a psychopathic Austrian mass murderer. Watching the gruesome events unfold themselves on screen, in disgusting detail, I was kind of hoping it wasn't based on reality. As I really suspected...

This Is England is finally back on the telly, so happy. This Is England 88.

I rather liked Animal Kingdom, although I can see that it can be perceived as somewhat superficial (Weaver's role was maybe a bit of a stereotype). That being said, I didn't mind

Pusher is a decent enough film from what I recall, more interesting than Drive.
