Vital Weekly Labelboss Goh Lee Kwang is also very active as a composer of his own music and on his 'Back2Bed' he adds something to the music that we don't see a lot these days and that is humour. The cover is in simple cartoon style, including text balloon's and the instruments are 'guitars, electr...

Vital Weekly If I hear a clarinet, I immediately think of Michael Thieke these days, it seems. If it involves a clarinet, then surely he's involved, and Port Chiusa is no different. Here we have three clarinet players, besides Thieke also Hans Koch (a clarinet powerhouse of his own) and Pead Conca,...

Improv Sphere "Instead of the sun" is the first duo by Chris Abrahams & Burkhard Beins, released some months ago. It's a collection of nine pieces, realized with synthesizers, electronics and percussions. Nine clean, short, clear, and smooth electroacoustic investigations. Abrahams & Beins explore ...

On Vital Weekly [1], some really nice words about the latest Herbal Records release: Burkhard Beins | Chris Abrahams "Instead of the Sun". Have you get your copy? Vital Weekly I am quite a fan when it comes to the music on Abrahams, as he brings much energy and vibrancy to the table, and that is no ...

Textura Can't afford a trip to Paris? For an extremely modest sum, you can at least visit many of its courtyards via the latest work by Australian phonographer Martin Kay, which presents an hour's worth of field recordings captured at shared spaces in the city. Recorded during the summer of 2013, C...

A short & sweet mention of the album by Brian Olenick. Another really fine release that should not be slept on: Rodolphe Alexis/Stéphane Rives, Winds Doors Poplars (2014) on Herbal International. Heady, rough sounds: field recordings by Alexis, dark and hard, with independently conceived, often brut...

Squidco Two extended works from Herbal International label leader Goh Lee Kwang: the two part "Vurnmmkied" the first of static sonic environments that slowly morph, while the second varies with a mix of subtle and harsh sound; "3753" contrasts with gentler, slower territory. http://herbalinternatio...
