Re: fade-outs

That is a clumsy way to do an edit via cross-fade but unfortunately out of sync (which gives the track the vibe of a collage for a moment). Anyway after 1:50 I actually like the chord shifts, not hopeless at all and based on a kind of harmonic sensitivity probably not to everyone's taste here. That ...

Re: Does It Matter Whether We Own Music?

There’s also a reasonable argument to be made that if something truly does disappear, it was likely shit to begin with. Yeah, one man’s trash and all that nonsense. Supply will always rise to meet demand. That was one basic train of thought of mine, only with many more words in my version. If music...

Re: Does It Matter Whether We Own Music?

My guess would be if there's persistent interest in particular music it won't disappear, while I think multiplication in physical form versus digital storage doesn't make the difference. At some point I redefined for myself an external harddrive just as a very advanced CD in a metal/plastic box - CD...

Re: Articles, interviews, documentaries about reductionism

I don't know if this helps: Peter Niklas WIlson - Reduktion: Zur Aktualität einer musikalischen Strategie (2003, book in german lanuage) I had it, read it, can't find it, maybe gave it away again (mostly because I don't find its topic very interesting after all). No idea what the afficinados think o...

Re: EAI: Roots and Influences

What about folks starting from scratch without any practical background in performing music? Isn't that part of eai? This always reminded me of early no wave/post punk... the open nature of the music allows people with non-musical backgrounds to develop an individual approach to music making, bringi...

Re: Recent purchases redux

I finally checked out the Scissor Girls (I think Mudd recommended them to me several years ago). Together with that come Bride of No No, Dot Dot Dot and Zeek Sheck (all of them pretty much complete). Still trying to find a copy of 0th's "Tammy". Looks like I'll have lots of fun during the next few w...

Re: Roscoe Mitchell and AEC/AACM as proto-"eai"

I listened to tons of Sun Ra last summer, and repeatedly thought some studio productions from circa 1963 anticipate an AACM-vibe. Not sure anymore in how far that includes the aspect of "reduced" playing though. But in regards of eai, the electronic part is obviously there. Most of the Sun Ra catalo...

Sorry for posting more silly non-sense stuff from Germany, but that's dance music videos I keep returning to from time to time.

Oh, I like the Autechre one above. I have no idea what this thread really is about... the examples above suggest EDM has no vocals? Anyway this might fit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9veZ-9YrsAM Kyoka 23 ish - I think somebody on this forum once talked about this one and I really liked it back t...

Re: Berlin Improvisation - a film by Roberto Duarte

Sorry... I wrote that something Andrea Neumann said in the trailer immediately reminded me of Alexander technique, but eventually found it quite off-topic, kinda irrelevant, so I deleted it again. Well ok, in a way it's not completely off-topic... the one thing helps replacing unreflected and unheal...

(and i would even agree on some of cage's work being very authoritarian, though calling it fascist makes no sense, that must be your style of teaching :D ) No. That comment was strictly related to me playing him nothing. I swear. :P I've been thinking about actually answering what this thread is ab...

Re: How much music do you listen to?

...though of course i do filter stuff for evil vibes, and will suddenly notice how oppressive some music can be which i had thought of as interesting or high-energy ... ... while that doesn't tell very much about the nature of the music at hand. You might feel a track oppresses you in some way whil...

Mengelberg had a big part in my musical socialization. In particular those early ICPs still are sonic and... how can I say... cognitive? mental? intellectual? spiritual? treasure troves for me.

Re: fade-outs

Porque te vas: https://youtu.be/-zerygmvhg0?t=2m50s I hear its fade-out as a sudden switch from melody, harmonies, lyrics to a quite interesting band texture. I once made a loop of two bars from that and was very happy listening to just that - made a great rhythm track that wouldn't be out of place ...

Re: Recent purchases redux

25 items by God Is My Co-Pilot - a bit out of the blue, only checked a few tracks on Youtube before ordering... but I have the impression I won't regret that in terms of the music itself. I'm actually quite excited. But what I might regret is going for all those 7'-vinyl items instead of just taking...

Re: Recent purchases redux

The thing is, it sounds so familiar and for lack of a better term "old school", maybe even EFI. I can't really put my finger on it, but it reminds me of my early ventures in improv. I checked out only the two samples given at Erstdisc... the guitar playing in Looking West reminds me of Hans Reichel...
