Can't think of anything significant to say other than this is my favourite of the three and my album of the year so far. Make that also my favourite Erstwhile release along with Duos for Doris. Truly great stuff.

Re: Now Playing
I love Sinter too, a captivating listen. The way I hear it, it has some things in common with stuff like Motubachii and Teatro Assente . I don't think it's quite as exciting as those two, but still a lot of fun and full of lovely, unexpected twists. Touching didn't really do anything for me I'm afra...

Re: Gravity Wave
Ah, thank you for clarifying things. I don't think I would like it if you spent the next ten years translating all that at the expense of making music! I may get a hold of Room of Rumor then and see how I like it. Still, looking forward to translations of those other bits that appear on the album - ...

Re: Gravity Wave
Michael, is there a translation of Die ganze Zeit in the works by any chance? I'm intrigued by the little snippets you've translated on the GW website, I would love to be able to read the whole thing. I know you've translated one of his older books, and I think that is the only one available in Engl...

Re: Best Albums of 2012
excluding prog and power metal releases, which I suspect no one here wants to hear about :) Try us. Heh, things I really liked last year were Kamelot, OSI, Threshold, Circus Maximus and Jorn Lande. All of them supremely corny and overproduced, but it's a very special soft spot for me that doesn't r...

Re: Best Albums of 2012
I've posted my list now too. I didn't get around to some of the more experimental music I really wanted to (notably the ErstLives) so it feels pretty incomplete. Wow, have you actually heard everything Lil B put out last year? I'm gonna go ahead and list a very approximate top 50 (I love making lis...

Re: five favorite ersts (2012)
Eh, what the hell, here are my top five: 1. Rowe/Tilbury - Duos for Doris 2. Annette Krebs/Taku Unami - Motubachii 3. The Magic I.D. - Till My Breath Gives Out (haven't seen it mentioned so far I think) 4. Gunter Muller/Le Quan Ninh - La voyelle liquide 5. Lambkin/Lescalleet - The Breadwinner Very, ...

Re: the demise of ihm?
Well, I really hope the forum isn't dying. It's been my main source of information for *this* music (and other music too occasionally) for many years now - not to mention movies (I'd say at this point Dan's recommendations are just about the only ones I can take seriously when it comes to film). I d...

Re: graham lambkin – salmon run (kye, 2007)
This has made really curious about Darge's work. Salmon Run is one of my favourite albums, and I've yet to hear something similar to it (except Softly Softly... of course). Any other recommendations in this area would be welcome.

Re: Freedom of the City 2010
I just want to say that somebody should put the John Butcher/Mark Sanders performance on a cd and release it into the world. The same goes for the Lexer/Battus/Coleman trio - I thought these were some of the highlights of the festival (both on the second day, most of which was pretty much removed fr...

Re: Freedom of the City 2010
^ Heh, actually I've only heard Axene and Non-Organic Bias by Guionnet, both of which I greatly enjoy. Wasn't aware of his jazz tendencies. Come to think of it, I was (am?) kind of hoping this fest wouldn't be focused solely on free jazz, but more on free improv in a wider sense. Oh well, I guess I'...

Re: Freedom of the City 2010
Me too. Looking forward to Wadada Leo Smith, Evan Parker, Louis Moholo, Guionnet, John Butcher... well, pretty much everyone. The line-up apparently includes the London Improvisers Orchestra as well - kind of curious about that one, last time I checked (an album from a few years ago) this was a coll...

Re: humor in EAI
The first time I saw Thomas Lehn in concert, maybe 8-10 years ago, his stage presence had quite theatrical qualities (I believe he calmed a little over the years); that en passant sure added a humorous aspect to the scenery. yes, he generally looks like a mad professor playing Battleship. I saw him...

Great music, mostly unknown names (to me at least). Keep them coming if you have more of this quality.

Re: Spectralism
So far, the Grisey I've heard seemed a bit glacial Is glacial bad? I love him! I just found his stuff harder to sink into, but I blame that mostly on me not being able to give it my full attention. I did love the percussion piece though, "Le Noir de l'Etoile" - I listened to it in two versions and ...
