Re: Rap Music
Seriously: What other female rappers are worth checking out? I didn't like Lady Sovereign so far, love the somewhat odd Yolandi Visser, Nicki Minaj will be checked out next. I found a long list of female rappers on wikipedia, which in the end says nothing except for: There are many of them - ? Chec...

If you're going that route, you might also want to watch ebay/craiglist for one of these to come up cheap: http://www.frontierdesign.com/Products/TranzPort Such as here: http://cgi.ebay.com/FFrontier-Design-Group-Tranzport-w-mic-mounting-bracket-/130426817213?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e5e0b4ab...

what's sure is that he's doing a workshop and solo set at Oberlin on March 11/12, ... Details on this would be very welcome..Oberlin is about a 5 hour drive from here, which ( under the right circumstances ) is a doable thing for me.. Rowe will be playing here at 9pm on Friday, March 12th in Fairch...

Yet to be mentioned: Mahmoud Guinia, also spelled Gania or Ghania (when he played with Pharaoh Sanders). I've got three tapes of his that I downloaded from various blogs, though I've only been able to find this one again from Awesome Tapes: http://awesometapesfromafrica.blogspot.com/2008/04/mahmoud-...

Not sure where to put this, Graham Lambkin 's list of 10 releases he's into (Joe McPhee!): http://www.dustedmagazine.com/features/831 Dusted's on a little roll with their Listed series. Last one ( [here] ) featured Olivia Block, a couple before that they had Kyle Bruckmann ( [here] ), and before th...

Re: Textile Orchestra FOR THE BOSS out at last
Congrats, looks interesting.
I must say though, MP3 samples at a bitrate of 32kbps (?!) make most anything sound incredibly unappealing. Any place we could hear better quality excerpts?

In case anyone hasn't seen this (I now understand what Shiflet was referring to above, I think): Terrible news out of New York, where local experimental artist Raglani performed at the esteemed No Fun Fest on Friday night. From a message Eric Hall left on my Facebook page: Just to let you know, afte...

Re: Contact Microphones
I recently got a K&K contact mic ("Big Shot" model, I believe) for doing field recordings based on Joe Foster's recommendation in another thread. I have been enjoying getting to know all sorts of surfaces, but I'm wondering if anyone has tips to share in achieving the best recording. Holding it on w...

The title of the album pictured 2 posts above is Cincinatti . Strong recording indeed! I really believe the Wiese/Yeh pairing is the best thing that happened to noise/improv in the last couple of years. Definitely, I've been enjoying this a great deal. I've found it really mindful and considered, b...

With all of my fanboy-ism, I forgot about a question I've been meaning to ask here regarding The Breadwinner : What do people make of the final, titular track? It has always struck me as sort of standing apart from the rest of the disc, though not in a bad way. I'm not sure if it's the more straight...

Thanks for the write-ups on the shows everyone (here and in Mark's IHR thread). Both wonderful and painful to read, as I had planned to go to the Wesleyan show until I came down with the flu. No fun at all—though I was very close to attempting to summon the energy to still make the show. Even withou...

Totally ... I've been loving this cut as well. Possibly my favorite bit of her recent work—wonderful combination of her increasingly great songwriting and a return to that perfect murk. (Also, for those that didn't notice, I believe Yii linked to an mp3 of the track.)Yii wrote:Grouper - Rising Height

Upcoming releases look great. Very glad to see that Intransitive is still going.
I'll be making an order for the sale, I think. Been meaning to pick up that Brendan Murray disc especially.

Sam Prekop - The Company love this record (and his other solo). joe, even if you hate the sea and cake, these have the killer rhythm section of josh abrams and chad taylor. hard to beat chad taylor. plus rob mazurek, and jim o'rourke production on the above disc. Agreed. Both are great albums and m...

You might check out the Peavey Solo. It's not made anymore, or rather, there is an amp currently being made called the Peavey Solo, but it doesn't have the feature of running off of batteries like the older ones. It can run off of batteries at 10w, or AC power at 15w. It has two separately controlle...
